Grow up. Welcome to the real world. Even MB’s have bosses. Your nanny family is your customer. Act like a pro.

You don’t fire anyone. You quit if you don’t like it.

Op here. I got the full payment and fired my mom boss. Sorry you can't understand sarcasm.

You go, girl! Congratulations to you. More nannies should stand up for themselves.

Thanks but to be honest this was a hobby job. I could quit suddenly because my husband makes a high income. I feel very fortunate. I also met another family tonight and I have a feeling they want to hire me!

That makes me think so much less of you, OP. I don't need to work either but I do not have "hobby jobs" - I work with children and that bond is important to me and not a hobby.

Hmm you sound a bit sensitive. I just meant that I don't depend on the income to pay for bills etc. I work as a nanny because I love children too. It's hard to stand up for yourself when you really need the income. I experienced that when I was on my own in my early 20s.

My chosen career is not a "hobby" just because I do not need to work. Yours should not be either. Everyone can stand up for themselves and most of them need the income.

You're way too sensitive about this. A hobby job is not a bad thing. Being a part time nanny is not necessarily financially rewarding for me but it involves personal interest, thus making it worthwhile. I'm able to care for babies and I love babies. The fact that your career is something I consider a job shouldn't upset you.

I disagree. A "hobby" is something you do to fill empty time. If you want to do something else as a career - do it. I don't think being a nanny is right for you or in the best interest of your charges.

Sorry - you really soured me on you.

I am beginning to see why your MB wasn't appreciative...

You're seriously comparing me to your dentist? I make peanuts compared to a dentist. I don't go around telling people that I have a hobby job. A hobby job is something women can have because they don't need the income. I am still really value my work. I work very part time and I do it because I love working with children. People always have to get offended by the smallest things. It's absurd.

I know what you meant op. It's not like you called her a babysitter. Now that would really offend her.

I would not trust my teeth to a dentist who believed she had a "hobby job". You totally missed the point. People who have "hobby jobs" do not value their work - their work is a hobby. Please stop being so obtuse.

Tell your next potential employer that you consider taking care of her children a hobby. Let us know how that works out for you.

I totally disagree. Lots of women have hobby jobs. It doesn't mean they don't value their work. You're very dramatic.

Enough, Hobby Nanny. I agree with the PP - you are becoming more and more unlikable with every rebuttal post.

Give no more notice than time you can afford to lose as many MBs will let you gonna the spot. Make sure you get all money due you. Good luck.

This.

Did you say good-bye to the children? The children didn't realize you considered them a "hobby", did they?

This thread has become so hilarious. A hobby is something you enjoy to do in your free time and some ppl are lucky to be able to do that and make money. If your dentist doesn’t have to work but does so bc they want to fill the day and enjoy dentistry then so what...their degree doesn’t become meaningless and just disappear bc you feel like it needs to be their full time career. Do you only go to hairstylists who say this is my career? Do you only shop at stores where the employees say this is my career? I guess you don’t buy from Etsy as there are a lot of ppl selling on there as a hobby. Just went to a cooking class this weekend and chef, who is culinary trained, no longer works in a restaurant and only does the classes as a hobby now...guess I shouldn’t have eaten the food

I don't go to a dentist or hairstylist who say it is their hobby. You asked the question on the off topic forum and pretty much everyone told you that hobbies are for amateurs and not paid.

You are truly an awful woman. No wonder your MB had no respect for you or your time.
