What about a gardener? Do I need one of those too or can I have my nanny/cleaner/slave do that as well? Clearly you know nothing about me ...

Live - in nanny here. If you are looking for a house manager/live - in nanny, I would suggest posting on nannies4hire, enannysource, and gonannies. All three will let you leave the pay rate as negotiable, you have more opportunity to describe your position, and you are more likely to find someone with the experience you want and need. All three allow nannies to search nationally for positions that match their expertise, so you might need to be flexible about in - person interviews when you get back, and paying for your nanny to relocate could be lumped in the benefits.

I wish you luck!

Hi, we live in Chevy Chase, DC. It's seem like you need a housekeeper/nanny. We have four children, but our oldest only lives with us during the school year and spend the summer with his mom. Our house manger helps with drop offs/pick ups, laundry, vacuum, washing all five bathrooms, making all the beds, mopping, taking out the trash, dusting, dishes, packing for trips, and walking the dog. I take care of the food shopping and homework help with the children. That way I get to spend time with them. We give her a car to use, and a bank card for work. she works 7am-6pm mon-fri. She is the BEST! she will work with our family until mid May, if you are still looking for help, I can pass your email address to her. She has worked with us for four years.

Most people don't have more than 1-3 kids, so most nannies couldn't work with more children.

I belong to several nanny groups. There are plenty of people who like to work with larger families, and while the first year of this family is a lot of work, the older children will be in school and more self-sufficient each year. This is not a nightmare, $50/hr job.

OP, advertise the position for a reasonable rate and see who applies. You will almost definitely need to eliminate any "chores," at least until the twins are in all-day school, which means laundry and such will fall to you, but I bet you get plenty of applicants.

Thanks everyone! Very helpful! Our children are 12, 8, 6 year old twins and a baby who will be two this summer. So everyone will be in school next September including the baby who will go to nursery school in the mornings, hopefully! We're planning to live in the Bethesda/Potomac area and will be there in June ... I'd love to speak to her or anyone else who might be available - martinfamily@email.com is my email address.

I think you will be able to find someone fairly easily, as long as your older kids are generally kind to nannies (that seems to be the biggest complaint of nannies to a wide range of ages -- older kids who resent having a nanny and take that out on her). You're looking for someone who likes working with older kids and is comfortable overseeing homework, maybe cooking with them or going on outings, but would be fine with one year of baby, I would think. So not someone who expects to spend her days at gymboree class and pureeing foods.
