Nannies think they set the rate, but they don't. The job and the market set the rates. The nanny can ask for anything she wants, but if it isn't in line with the market and the job requirements, she will not be hired. There are many more nannies available than jobs, so, as in every other industry, it is the market and employer that sets the rate.
