I'd be annoyed and would consider half pay or no pay.
Roads were fine and plowed. Kid just got sick in the AM? And she doesn't have backup care and is a childcare provider? Yuck.
Everyone was in both of our offices today, on time.

Are your sure she just doesn't have back up care for when her kid doesn't have school? If s/he is in school.
You mean the nanny who probably makes $30K should have back up care for her kids because two parents with an HHI that is probably three or four times that much don't? Seriously? And the PP complaining about the nanny who was willing to sleep over so she could be at work? How entitled could you possible be? What would you have said if she had stayed home? I know, you'd be bitching here about not having childcare. Look, I realize Friday was drivable but what if it had been Thursday, OP? Would you still be riled up? Did you drive on Thursday?

I'm the "entitled" MB. Read my post. Thursday wasn't the issue. It was the entire week of paralytic fear, combined w/ an insulting attitude towards us not wanting a live-in.

Read before you rant.

First world problems. Get a life, a**hole.
+1! Stay home with your kid . You're the one with the insulting attitude!

If you hire a nanny with children you have to expect things like this. Also you have to deal with the weather too. If I can't get out, I can't get out.

Get over it.

Sorry OP I would be annoyed too in your shoes. My nanny has school aged kids and back up care with family nearby so we are fortunate and don't have to worry about her reliability. She also comes in unless there is a city wide emergency or something. If you can, try to sit down with her and explain that you need to go to your job in order for her to keep her job. If this is ongoing issue, cut your losses and find a replacement.

I'm a nanny, I went to work Thursday and Friday, roads were fine (I live in DC and drive out to MD to my NF) and many others were driving too. I joked with MB about all the people complaining that it was totally undriveable. She expressed how grateful she is that I am so levelheaded and reliable and she paid me a small bonus for the week.

I am truly sorry for all you MBs who employ nannies that try to take as many paid days off as possible and make your life harder.

I haven't missed one snow day this year but if you think the roads were fine on Thursday, you need to put down the pipe ASAP. It's one thing when nannies take advantage when there's a little bit of bad weather and totally another when a dedicated nanny who doesn't is accused of doing so because she doesn't want to risk her life when driving conditions are truly dangerous. I would not consider you levelheaded in any way if you were out driving on Thursday. Very poor judgement on your part if you're not a troll and telling the truth.

You guys realize that just because the roads were OK by your home doesn't mean they were OK by EVERYONE'S home, right?

The driveway people waited until undocumented workers knocked on their doors to shovel their walks and such. Then they looked outside and said "Everything's fine!". They didn't realize where the shovelers and nannies and housekeepers were coming from. it really wasn't their business. It was too depressing to think about. So they went inside into their warm kitchens and made french toast and mused about spring.

Wow. Hilariously unhinged.

Or maybe just drunk, given the hour it was posted.

I wrote this and frankly, I think it was pretty deep.
