That's all great, but why do you deserve more money? They are compensating you for your work, MORE than fairly. It sounds like they are nice people who probably treat you nicely. Why do you DESERVE a raise?

Mom, and preschool teacher, here (not currently a MB), and that would be a big red flag for me that the nanny didn't have an understanding of child development. Is it something you discussed with the parents before starting? Are you sure it's something they actually want, because I know I wouldn't.

How do you know OP doesn't have an understanding of child development? She got her degree in Education so I'm sure she had a few CD classes.

My 15 month old can recognize seven words now (When you write 10 words on a piece of paper and ask her, "where is the word APPLE" she will point to the word apple) Yes, this is a good time to start prepping them to read - the understanding that words are a representation of the object/action. Memorization is a good foundation to reading. My DS was reading Bob books and sounding out words at three.

This nanny sounds like she is on the right track.

Then she wasn't paying attention, because there are so many important things for a 14 month old to learn that wasting time on reading (particularly sight words like the PP) isn't really excusable. A parent or nanny who does that is putting bragging rights ahead of their child's development and should be ashamed of themselves.

If I came home and found someone doing flash cards with my 15 month old, I'd have to think hard about firing them.

OP here and a big thank you to all who offered advice. I was given my raise this morning ($1 an hour) and my employers added another week of paid vacation for me. I am glad I didn't muddy the waters by requesting four additional hours over my raise - the advice to stick to the raise was good - thank you.

Good lord. That is NOT the right track. It's a recipe for burnout and is done primarily for parental bragging rights. Oh, and early reading does NOT somehow demonstrate superior intellect in your child. It just shows aggressive chimp training techniques.
