If a nanny is too dumb and stoopid to have the ability to calculate and understand pay rates than she is too dumb to be employed as anything other than a hamburger flipper. Not even smart enough to work the register.

The onus is on the employers to pay according to the law. The nanny should understand it to keep from being short-changed.

Does it really matter to me if the nanny next door decided to work for less than me? It doesn't change my pay rate. I don't agree to work without being paid overtime. I've interviewed with families who made offers like that. I declined the position and moved on. Advocate for yourself and learn to negotiate. Crying abuse on a message board isn't going to fix the problem.

Your "blended" rates, your "average" rates, and whatever other creative financing terminology you can whip up, is nothing but an effort to fool the nanny into thinking you're paying more than you are.

Do NOT allow unscrupulous parents to try to cheat you with "blended" or "averaged" pay rates. Tell them to stick to regular overtime laws if they need more than 40 hours a week.

It's the law!
