Jesus, I know! The responses on this forum lately are just ridiculous. No one is helpful or constructive anymore. There are a few posters who always write bitchy, non-relevant one liners and every one else seem to tell OPs that they should quit their job/fire their nanny, regardless of the topic.

I've been reading this forum for about 5 years and it has just become a joke.

Nannies, you are really doing a great job making yourselves look terrible.

I have people remove their shoes in my own home due to germs but keep a basket of footies on a shelf by my front door. My girlfriends have complained about me not wanting them to wear shoes but their feet not being pedicured so the footies hide whatever they want to hide and the shoes stay in the foyer. I have a small dog and don't need her getting something.

So naturally I remove my shoes promptly when I come in my nf home. They do also. Their home is very clean but I just keep a pair of slippers there that I wear only inside

This logic cracks me up! You do know what is on your dogs paws, right?

My dog usually wears booties on walks, if she doesn't I wipe them down with wipes once we come back inside. She also uses a pad for the bathroom so walking is for excerise not for her to be sniffing around other dogs waste while we are out. NEWSFLASH: not all dogs run around in the backyard all day playing in dirt and poop. Mine stays in our condo unless we walk or get in the car.

Besides that I was referring to her allergies. Living under 2 feet high can expose her nose and fur to tons of allergens.

Mb here. Can honestly say I have no idea what DS' semi regular sitter wears. I think she goes barefoot in the summer and Sox in the winter? We just ask that there are no shoes on the carpet but it seems virtually everyone takes their shoes off at thr door without asking or anything.

This is the weirdest thread. I've never realised I could be judged for wearing or not wearing socks. I usually go barefoot in the summer or keep socks in my bag in case it gets chilly, and bring slippers to one of the babysitting families because their floors are always gross.

I live in Atlanta, which is very, very warm. I prefer to wear flip flops or sandals during the summer months, as they're easy to slip on and off while chasing after little ones. I walk barefoot in the homes of my MB/DB and in those of longtime babysitting clients.
When I am hired to babysit for someone I've never met, I plan my clothing around what I can wear with socks and shoes...which means I am usually sweltering or I also take socks to put on. I always try to be considerate and respectful of others in their homes, but it's kind of a pain. I don't want to ask someone right as I'm meeting them if I should wear socks in their house.
Do you mind if a babysitter walks barefoot in your home?
Please don't be mean. This is an honest question.

Bring a clean pair of slipons with you and put them on in their house. Use them as your "indoor" shoes. Problem solved.

The USA is not a 3rd world country and we do not go barefoot in our homes. Wear non-slip bedroom slippers but barefoot is gross.

I am genuinely curious as to what is so "gross" about being barefoot in one's own home. No snark, could you please enlighten me?

You should ask the parents if it's okay. If they say it's okay, then you should go barefoot. Going barefoot establishes a sense of "comfort" and "homeyness". This is important if you babysit a lot as it makes the child feel more comfortable to be around you. Even if you can't wear sockless shoes, you should still take your shoes and socks off when you enter the client's home. If you just take your shoes off but leave your socks on, then your socks would be more likely to dirty the floor because they collected more outside germs than your bare feet. If you want to feel more comfortable about going barefoot, put on some nail polish, so your toes are nicer to look at.

After all, you are not a stranger. You're in the house for a long period of time, and even "subbing" for their parent, so why keep your shoes and/or socks on? If they say no, then bring a pair of flip flops, if you didn't already wear them to get there, and change into those.

Please wear socks or house slippers or something that you have not worn outside. You were not hired to be a foot model. Also, I have seen some horrible looking feet.

Worse than tracking in whatever shit is on your shoes? You aren't very bright.

The US is not a 3rd world country and animals do not roam the streets defecating everywhere. There are, however, more than a few mother's who allow their children to use playgrounds as their bathrooms.

I’m sure they have embraced barefootedness in the 3 years since this thread was created

I wear socks or I leave a pair of slippers at their home. When on the carpet, I walk around barefoot or with socks but on hardwood flooring, I wear in-house shoes. 1 the floor is sometimes nasty (especially if they have pets that shed), kids spilling stuff and walking on hardwood floor barefoot (even with socks) isn’t good for your back.

Most families prefer you remove your outdoor shoes. So as long as it’s not outdoor, I don’t see why it would be an issue. I’ve never asked because no matter where I go, I always take my shoes off when entering someone’s home, even family members.
