Some of these responses are so odd.

No. You wear shoes or slippers as barefoot you could slip. Also, maybe your feet smell!

Ok, aside from this thread being ancient...what able bodied adult has ever slipped barefoot?? What??

Whoa. I had no idea that people had such strong opinions on this issue. I don’t care what my nanny wears on his/her feet as long as they are engaging with my kids. We don’t wear shoes in the house, so my preference is socks or barefoot, but would not freak out if they were more comfortable i. Shoes.

I live in Atlanta, which is very, very warm. I prefer to wear flip flops or sandals during the summer months, as they're easy to slip on and off while chasing after little ones. I walk barefoot in the homes of my MB/DB and in those of longtime babysitting clients.
When I am hired to babysit for someone I've never met, I plan my clothing around what I can wear with socks and shoes...which means I am usually sweltering or I also take socks to put on. I always try to be considerate and respectful of others in their homes, but it's kind of a pain. I don't want to ask someone right as I'm meeting them if I should wear socks in their house.
Do you mind if a babysitter walks barefoot in your home?
Please don't be mean. This is an honest question.

What's next, it's so hot that you want to wear a halter too and very short shorts? You are supposed to be a professional so dress like one!

We all take our shoes off but I wouldn't mind whether you wore slippers, socks, a clean pair of shoes or went barefoot. Presumably you bathe regularly. If not, we've got bigger problems than you going barefoot indoors. If you asked, I would consider that to be very polite of you, but my response woudl be to wear or not wear whatever you feel comfortable with. Just ask!

Thus subject came up when I hired my new nanny.im barefoot as soon as I get home so I would have no problem with it. As the woman said she feels more comfortable and stable when out of shoes.ifshe needs to leave the house she can just slip in her sandals

Nanny here and I always wear clean socks. I just think it’s more respectful of someone’s home and more hygienic. I keep a couple extra pairs in my backpack in case I step on something dropped from the high chair.

I don’t mind if you don’t mind my dirty floors.

I don't want footprints on my floors. Wear socks, slippers, clean flip flops.. something.

barefoot is ok if you are wearing an open toed or breathable shoe. If you're wearing sneakers/toms/whatever without socks, your feet stink, and i dont want your stinky bare feet on my floors.

My theory is that people who think this is gross don't wash their feet very often.

Those of us who do think it's fine.

I don’t get it… sometimes is very scary to ask anything here…
I always take my shoes or sandals off when I enter somebody’s home. It’s easy to answer without being aggressive or mean!
