This is ridiculous. If this is for real, you're telling me they want their baby out in 42 degree weather all day long? And they want to let all the heat out of their house? It seems to me it would be cheaper for them and warmer for you to run a space heater.

But, this is beyond ridiculous, and I not only think you should quit, I think you should report them to the Dept. of Labor wherever you work.

Too bad you already asked about turning on the heat. If you hadn't I'd say to just go ahead and turn the heat up when you get there and turn it down when you leave. But now that they told you you couldn't it'd be weird.

I'd definitely talk to them. Just be honest, you can't work in these conditions. There are two options, somehow heat the house to a temperature the nanny can function in or find a new nanny. Don't be rude about it, it's just fact. You're not asking for anything unreasonable.

No way is the house 42.

Also, OP says she's in her second year with this family but her charge is a baby. Unless she's calling a 1+ year old a baby something doesn't add up.

Not OP, but I referred to my charges as "the babies" (as did their mother) until they were well over 2. Nice try detective. What is it you were trying to prove?

I'm not trying to "prove" anything. I generally hate when people call troll and could not care less if this is real or not. I was curious how old the child was that the parents dont care it's 42 degrees in their home so I went back to read the OP. in response to a question about the child OP specifically said her charge is a baby and she dresses him in a onesie and footie pjs. I refer to my older than 1 year old children as "babies" too but if someone asked how they feel about something I wouldn't say "well they are just babies." I'm not sure why you are so defensive though if you aren't OP.

OP here, last year I had older DC as my charge. My current charge is almost 1. Their oldest kid goes to preschool now, and I don't have him. Just the baby.
The playroom was 42 last week and just as cold this week. I told MB we were going to play dates and I brought the baby to my house instead.
