I believe parents would be more likely to give you a chance if you could tell them about your parenting experience AND show them that you are not only up-to-date on CPR/First Aid but also that you have taken some community college type child development classes focusing on the latest in safety standards, nutrition, and how to effectively engage children in learning through play.

Best wishes!

+1 as a MB, I agree. I would interview a SAHM, but would expect that she would've taken CPR and first aid as the very basic level of training for a childcare position. I would also view her more favorably if she demonstrated continuing Ed courses she was taking, looking to take, etc. doesn't have to be an associates degree or certificate program, but something to demonstrate that she is viewing this as a serious career and is open to learning new ways of doing things.

I know balancing work and courses is hard, have you checked out online schools/courses? Good luck!!

We hired a former SAHM. Unmitigated disaster. She was 10+ years away from recent experience with like aged children and must have said dozens of times in the first few days "wow how much things have changed" and "this new style of car seat" and "really, that's not what we did when mine were young, what a change!" Totally different than how she presented herself in interview. She was also very unprepared for the reality of switching from a tons of free time/make your own schedule life to a full time/on someone else's schedule life.

That said - sample size of one. Just things to consider.
