Most California agencies will not work with you until you are already here in the state. You may find an exception, but that will depend on your background, experience, etc. It's actually illegal for agencies to place people who are not Trustline registered here, but not all of them follow this. Trustline is a special registry for childcare providers in California. Basically you go through a process of getting finger printed, background checked, etc. and then you are placed on the registry.

Public transportation is not great and traffic in the LA area can be horrendous, so keep that in mind when looking for places to live and work. You don't want to be stuck with a 2 hour commute each day.

I always work with multiple agencies in order to cast the widest net in my job search. Everyone has their own opinions on what agencies are best. You may have better luck working with a UK based agency right now. I see jobs pop up fairly regularly through UK agencies that are based in California. Sometimes these people are looking specifically for a British nanny.

The nice areas near long beach are manhattan beach, Hermosa beach, and the Palos verdes peninsula. Those are where the rich people live So they pay Beyer but are also higher maintenence. I got my job in Palos verdes by using care.com
