What are you talking about? I wear leggings all the time, usually with knee high boots, tunic, pea coat and a scarf. In fact I think wearing jeans all the time looks more casual. |
Today I wore jeans. I usually wear sweats, yoga pants, or wind pants, but today I wore jeans for you OP.
When giving my charges a bath the jeans got wet, it wasn't comfortable. When MB got home she didn't all the sudden give me a bonus, so tomorrow I'll probably wear the usual. |
I wear jeans and a t-shirt or yoga pants etc. Why not wear them? They are comfortable and appropriate for the type of job I am doing. The moms in this neighborhood all wear yoga pants or workout clothes everywhere, that is almost all you see them wearing and this is a wealthy neighborhood, where homes start at $5 million. If it is good enough for them I don't see why it wouldn't be good enough for me to wear... I have had MB's in the past that have said to just wear stuff like that. One told me of some great brands to try out as they washed great and weren't that expensive. She didn't want me to wear other stuff that could be ruined. She would save her $300 jeans for times that she wanted to look casual but still really nice. |
I lot of the nannies also dont want to dress out a little better because they dont want your husband checking them out... HELLOOOOO |
Exactly. There's nothing wrong with leggings. This outfit would look nice, but still be comfortable. I've seen women in professional positions dressed like this poster. What's the big deal? I find for myself if I dress with a little more effort I feel better. But I have no problem with leggings/yoga pants and a t-shirt either. It all depends on the plans for the day. |
This discussion is really dumb. Unless you are a nanny for a high profile family or a celebrity family and you run the risk of being photographed or need to have a good image for the family, there is NO reason you need to get dressed up in jeans and button ups, etc. every day.
About 3 out of the 5 days a week that I work, I wear yoga pants. Sorry, but I nanny for twin 1 1/2 year olds and it's just easier for me to run around with them in yoga pants and sneakers. The other two days we have music class and PT appointments so I will wear jeans and uggs and a shirt. There is no need to have to get all dressed up for a NANNY job. |
I am a nanny and dress casually for work. I wear blue jeans most every day. Since when did jeans become formal wear? |
Nobody said they did. But the posters who are saying they wear jeans and button downs or blouses every day are just coming off as ridiculous. This is a nanny job...there is no need to wear a button down or a blouse to work. You are watching kids, not greeting customers. |
It depends how you expect to be treated. I expect total respect for the work I do, by the children, the parents, and anyone else I may encounter through the day. Part of what makes me a professional, is how I present myself on the job.
If you want to look like big sis, that a whole different gig. |
...that's... |
I agree! I am one of the PP from the first page who said that I usually wear jeans/black pants, and a button-up shirt/blouse to work. I am a Career Nanny and want to be seen as a child care professional, not as a teenage babysitter. I don't do makeup for work (or at anytime, for that matter), I just throw my hair up into a bun, and I don't wear shoes with heels to work. While I don't feel like I overdress for work, I do like to look nice and put together. |
I wear yoga pants, tank tips and flip flops. It's hot in LA even when it's cold outside because MB has the heat on 76 all day. She once made a comment about my top, well maybe if it wasn't like the desert in her house my boons wouldn't be hanging out. |
*boobs |
hahahaha. I have NEVER been treated different because I wear yoga pants to work. I am paid very well and treated very well by the family. |
15:23, We are thrilled to hear of your success. Congratulations! You must know, however, that the majority of American nannies do not share your good fortune. |
