Is this reasonable? (Pay question) RSS feed

I am paid by personal check and my boss writes me a check at the end of the day every Friday.
The banks are closed by the time I leave work and it is very difficult for me to make it to the bank on Saturday.
Is it reasonable to ask for my check Friday morning so I can get to the bank?
I don't want to do direct deposit and yes, I pay taxes.

Have you checked whether your bank has a mobile deposit app? Even my small credit union does now.

If not, then yes, I don't think it's a crazy request. MB may not be keen on you running to the bank with dc though.

No deposit app, unfortunately.
My employers are fine with me running errands with my charge.
They actually encourage it.

Explain it to her. See what she thinks.

I would be a professional and plan around my finances and be budgeted to a check crediting on either Saturday or Sunday or if it was REALLY difficult to get o a bank on weekends, then I'd plan my deposits for Mondays.

You don't need to go to the bank on open hours. You just need to go to the atm at any time and deposit your check. How is it that you can't just go Friday after work?????

I don't think it's reasonable. Either budget around it and use direct deposit. Or an ATM. Or mobile app. Something.

+1 this. Your request isn't that extreme but it is not professional. Do McDonald's employees ask to get their checks when it's convenient for them? No they are professional.

MB here. I think you should find another solution - either one of the scan/deposit aps, or an atm where you can deposit friday morning, or direct deposit, or building up sufficient reserves that you can accommodate the funds not being deposited for 3 or 4 days.

No one should live so dangerously close to the edge that a weekend delay in depositing a paycheck in worrisome.

Also, technically you should not be paid in advance for work not yet completed.

Mostly it just sends a message to your employer(s) that you don't have your act together and need some accommodation. That isn't the end of the world, and maybe they won't care, but if you can avoid doing that I'd advise it.

Asking for this kind of accommodation potentially undercuts the extent to which you will be viewed as a professional. (Though I don't think much of this system of payment either from the employer's perspective. Too much room for error or late payments etc...)

PP - sorry, I meant Friday EVENING - not morning, for an ATM machine.

Just deposit your check at your bank's ATM.

No this is not a reasonable request OP. It makes you sound very unprofessional. You need to do one of the other options many PPs suggested. I think pretty much every bank has an app with a check deposit option so that would be easiest. Otherwise stop by the ATM on the way home Friday evening and deposit your check. The bank need not be open for you to do so! And maybe you should pick up some extra weekend babysitting gigs if you are living so close from paycheck to paycheck.

You can not get a pay before your job is done!

Another nanny here.
I think you should just ask them. I did in my previous job and it was no problem.

No, it's not. Change banks to one that works for you.
