| Let's just say that I have more than enough information to let me know that my bosses are firing me, I just don't know when..and I've known since May. There is a possibility that their new hire fell through. I have been actively looking for new employment but I go to work everyday sick to my stomach, wondering if today is the day. |
| how do you know? |
| A mom in the neighborhood (who I am close with) heard my MB talking about it to another mom at a party. |
| So quit before they have to chance to fire you. Find another job. |
Oh I am, but it's been rough explaining to the new families why they cannot contact my current bosses. |
| Why are they firing you ? |
Don't do this! If you are fired without cause, you can claim unemployment if you're having trouble finding work. Do you have any other references, OP? |
They wanted to cut my hours starting this school year because the kids are starting school but I told them that I would have to look for new employment if that happened. They told me that they didn't want me to go and that they would keep things as is. |
So basically they lied to you just to keep you on throughout this summer? What a dirty deed! |
| So let them fire you unless you have another job lined up. Otherwise you can't collect unemployment. |
| Talk to them. Just say another parent mentioned that they were keeping their options open for the fall and you fully support it and would like to know the end date to your employment so you can plan accordingly. Also ask if they would be willing to give you a good reference. I'd let them know you completely understand about the need for an hour reduction and are ok with finding another job with their support. |
| Tell potential families a sanitized version of the truth.. You need more hours but want to wait until they're sure they want to hire you before giving reference info for that one job. Tell them you haven'tgiven notice yet. Most normal people will understand that. |
|
So basically, they told you the truth that their family needs were changing. Big deal. They don't need you anymore.
Start looking for a job now and take a good offer and leave them behind. Or, wait until they fire you, collect severance and maybe unemployment, and look for a new job. Either way, you need a new job. Stop making yourself sick over it. This happens every day. Deal with it and start searching. |
Yes they told her the truth but when she said that she can't have cut hours, they told her that they would work it out...in reality..they've just been searching to replace her when it works for them instead of being honest with her upfront. |
| so why doesn't she just be more mature and either find a new job or speak to the parents? or both? |
