Another horrible interview

I got a call yesterday morning from a MB in NW DC requesting an interview. She insisted on doing it same day, with on four hours notice. Apparently the current nanny left the baby unattended in the house while talking on her cell phone outside. MB wanted to let her go over the weekend.

I borrowed clothes and a pair of flats from a friend whose house I was visiting for the day. I arrived 10 minutes early. I rang the bell, no answer. I called to say I was out front, no answer.

After standing in the rain for ten minutes I get a call that she is inside but was "collecting her thoughts" to prepare for our interview! So she left me on her front stoop in the midst of a thunder storm! I shivered through the interview soaking wet. She did not even offer me a towel.

I got an email this morning offering me the job. However, I will not work for someone so inconsiderate. She will have to keep looking.

Good reason to get at least one reference BEFORE the interview, so you can ask if she's C-R-A-Z-Y.

I'm impressed you waiting so long, especially in that storm. I would have rang the doorbell and called, but considering the weather, I would have left a few minutes after she didn't answer the phone.

If she was commuting home and got there on time then I would not have been offended. It is the fact that she saw the lightening and pelting rain and thunder and still did not let me in.

I call troll. I read this exact story on DCUM a couple of weeks ago. Seriously doubt that there are two MBs out there who are this self-centered.

If she called you to say she was inside "collecting her thoughts" I would have told her I wasn't interested in the job and left.

She could have at least offered you a warm towel, a hot cup of coffee/tea or even a hot shower...What a thoughtless + selfish and might I also add clueless woman.

I probably would have responded to her call that I had to "gather up my senses" and get the hell out of there ASAP.

You most definitely dodged a bullet there OP. No wonder her other Nanny left her.

I bet her story was made up and the other Nanny left her because she is crazy.

OP here. I did consider calling off the interview but I was worried it would reflect poorly on my future performance. Like maybe she would assume I would call out of work if it was raining. I think her behavior in the interview could have gone differently and I would not have been as put off. If anyone is interviewing for an emergency placement around 16th st, Shepard neighborhood - beware.

That post was about someone kept waiting past her interview time, and MB never came back in to ten minutes she waited. She left without ever talking to the MB who had closed the door in her face.

This is why nannies on this board have lost all credibility for me. Who the HELL offers a STRANGER a hot shower? You guys are always posting crap like this that goes overboard.
