| I remember a few days ago someone posted about being called out for an interview and showing up 10 minutes early and the potential MB told her to stay outside in the rain for 5 or 10 more minutes until she was finished with a phone call, the poster said they just left and felt they dodged ending up working for a horrible MB. Do any of the rest of you have any stories like that? Nannies or MBs... |
| In an initial telephone interview, the potential MB put me on hold for more than a minute twice and several times turned and SCREAMED at her kids. I declined the in-person interview! |
|
I interviewed a nanny (after speaking w/ her on the phone) and met her at a Starbucks.
She was uncomfortably aggressive about "closing the deal" - clearly just needing/wanting a job right away, far more than being concerned about fit with a family. She followed up aggressively by phone 3 times within the next 24 hours. I was very glad she didn't know where we lived. Got a TOTALLY different vibe from two other interviewees, one of whom we hired and has been with us for 3 years and the other whom I recommended to friends. Always trust your gut instincts! |
| During an interview DC climbed onto the counter and started going through upper cupboards. When MB would not let him open a package of chocolate raisins she swiped everything from the counter onto the floor - waffle maker, dish soap, utensil holder full of large utensils. She clearly had not been taught manners or how to express frustration. I declined the job and found another about one week later. |
| Meant would not let *her* open a package |
|
I had applied to interview with a family but I misread the timeframe needed, after the first email I apologized that I had misread it and the MB was very kind and understanding but asked if it could work for me somehow because she liked my experience. I said it would not and I just couldn't make it happen, I'm so sorry, and I wish her the best of luck in finding the perfect applicant and said goodbye. A couple days later she emails me one more time saying how I wasted her time (5 minutes of emails?) and she said I should not reply to her email.
I guess she wanted the last word. I didn't email her back trying to apologize again because she seemed a little unstable but I was very happy to have avoided going farther with her. |

I almost went to work for a certain owner of a DC area professional sports team, but after meeting with him and his wife a couple of times, I knew I didn't want the job.
They have since been involved with nanny lawsuits and I am so glad I dodged that bullet and didn't accept the job. |
Now that's interesting! I think we all know who you're referring too. Just curious, what about the meetings turned you off? |
| Sometimes it's pretty easy to tell if a person is plain "nice" or not... |
|
During one interview, a mother plainly asked me, "Would you mind if I referred to you as the Hired Help?"
I tried to conceal my surprise and disgust and wanted to respond back, "Would you mind if I referred to you as my Hiring Bitch??!" Instead, I chose the high road. |

I had a good phone interview with one MB of a five year old boy. We set up an in-person interview and she cancelled (via email). Three days late she called me and asked me if I could go pick up her son (whom I have NEVER laid eyes on) at school and told me the teacher would tell me which one he was and take him to their home (which I'd never been to) and care for him until past ten PM. (She had to work and then she and husband had plans for dinner). I said, "No" obviously.
How can any mother want a stranger (she hadn't run a background check on me or even seen any of my references) to do this?! I am just grateful I found out what kind of mother she was sooner than later. |

I had a live interview with a mother and her very clingy five year old daughter. Half way through the interview the five year old pulled up her mother's shirt and started nursing. The mother said, "Oh, that feels so good".
Yeah, I'm not into extended breastfeeding. Totally grossed me out. |
I bet she was going to ask you if you were ok with breast feeding her daughter while she was under your care. |
That feels so good? That is creepy and says she is getting way too much sexual enjoyment out of it. GROSS! |
| You are turning something that's innocent into something perverted you fucking freak. Her breast were probably full |
