Should we fire our nanny? RSS feed

Anonymous
Our nanny has been with us for 3.5 months. 5 weeks into employment she had to take a sick day because she had a bad respiratory infection. Last week she took two sick days in a row because she had strep throat, she was contagious. Other than her taking these sick days, she has been wonderful. She has gone above and beyond her duties, routinely comes in early/stays late with sometimes very little notice, and takes care of our 7 month old daughter while she was sick. Our nanny got sick from here but still worked both times DD passed it on to her. My daughter loves her too. She has helped is out a lot but its not easy for us to just take a day off if she needs one. Does taking sick days so early warrant firing her? We don't want to but my SIL said she would. Please weigh in.

Don't have anything better to do than spout out " troll".

Troll! I saw your post in the main forum too. Get a life.

If you are MB, then why post this? It is obvious you should it fire her, you have no ground to do so. But I suspect it's the nanny that got fired that posted this to get feedback from other MBs, if that's the case and you were fired just for that them I am sorry, and you will find another family that will treat you right.

Pp here, I meant to say shouldn't fire her.

I saw this same post on the main DCUM forum and you got blasted by other mothers for even considering such a hateful thing.

I truly hope you are a troll because no woman should be so heartless and stupid to even need to ask such a question.

No, spouting out "troll" is actually the best use of my time right now but thank you for asking.

Op here. Reliability is a top priority and our nanny hasn't been showing that. Why wouldn't I look at other options?

Also can't believe this is real, but no, OP. If she's been great then happening to get sick twice in 3 months should not be a deal breaker, esp if you know she got sick from your house. One thing I did not do early on but wish I had was find a home daycare or nanny service to use for back-up care so that I didn't need to take last minute days when the nanny called in sick. They still cost of course but sometimes swallowing the extra money is better than missing meetings.

MB here and if you're real you're an idiot for contemplating firing over this.

OP again. Our nanny had caught a stomach flu from or daughter but she did NOT catch strep throat from us or our home. She caught it after a weekend, same as the respiratory infection. It is worrisome that she gets sick and misses days so much. We are worried she may pull this and keep trying to take sick days. We can't have that.

Yes. OP! Do her a favor and fire her. Your next nanny will not only go above and beyond with your daughter and be generally wonderful but will also have the superhuman ability to never get sick.

Seriously, troll. Or did you really want your nanny coming into work with strep throat and giving it to your baby?
