Friend told me to fire my nanny

I've had a nanny for the past 2 months. My daughter is in love with her ( 5.5 months old). We love her too. She goes above her responsibilities ( only baby care), stays late whenever we need her, has helped us in a bind when both my husband an I were an hour late from work on one occasion, etc. She is always willing to help, comes to work in a joyful mood, and adores our daughter. She has been late on two occasions ( bad snow days, no big deal) and recently took a sick day. She was sick, she worked 2 days where she had a bad cold bit developed a respiratory infection with a high fever. Wasn't a big deal either. She had always been very upfront, let us know ahead of time when she felt she was getting sick, and we deem her as reliable and a very long-term fit. I had lunch with my friends and we were discussing are arrangements and how our children are adjusting, etc. When I mentioned the sick day ( she's a co-worker) and the two late days, she told me I need to fire her. We in no way want to. We knew the moment we met her, she was for us and a fit for my family.

We plan to keep her but wanted other parents opinions. Would you fire her? Keep her?

Your friend doesn't know your situation. If you are happy with your nanny, keep her. I can understand being late on snow days, it happens.

It's cold and flu season and was winter a few days ago. Unfortunately nannies are not robots and do get sick. I think a sick day this early is frowned upon but not a grounds to fire. Nanny is human .

Keep her if you like her, OP. No need to overthink it. Your 5.5 month old doesn't "love" your nanny any more that she loves any human who holds her or feeds her. She certainly isn't attached after two whole months, so you can surely change nannies if you want to.

As for her sick days, she sounds a little precious, but if you can deal with it, deal with it.

If she was sick she was sick.

It's not like the nanny said "oh no.... my eyes are itchy. I can't come in today" If she had a fever that is best for all parties that she stay at home.

Assuming you aren't a troll you'd be a fool to fire her.

Things happen. Many nannies arrived late or not at all on the snow days. You're fortunate she came in at all.
