| Should the nanny? |
| If it's not safe for the employer to drive to work, it's not safe for the nanny to drive to work. |
| Ugh, I have heard so many nannies complain that when their bosses get the day off, they still expect the nanny to come into work. Makes no sense. |
+1 Infuriating that over in the main forum people are talking about how terrible the roads are. Many near me aren't properly plowed. But they expect nanny to be there on time! |
| I asked my nanny to come in around 10 which means i had to push out my calls, etc. But I think that's reasoable. You can't expect someone to get there at the crack of dawn. and she lives pretty close. |
I'm curious what said bosses would do if nanny did come, I doubt they'd be working. |

If I were asked to come into work so my boss could lay around, I'd be LIVID.

When I get a snow day at work all that means is that I can do my computer work from home. None of my deadlines move. If nanny does not come then I end up staying up late (sometimes through the morning) finishing up projects. I would be happy to give the nanny a day of on the snow day if she offers to come on the weekend when it is safe and let me finish my work. If it's all just about nanny's safety then it should work. It's just the nannies I came across would jump on not having to come in if it snows a little bit but noone offers to make up the hours.
I am an employer. I do not really get snow days though. I just get the opportunity to finish my work from home. If nanny gets the snow means she gets to finish the work on a different day like I am then I am fine it |
| I find it interesting that so many MBs think nannies should cook, clean and run errands so they can "focus on the children" when they're off work but want the nanny to work on unexpected days off. Thought you wanted to spend time with your kids? |
While I can see your point, a nanny shouldn't have to "make up her work". She cannot control the weather. Some jobs have deadlines and others do not. |
Smart nannies don't allow an employer to bank hours. No way in hell. |
You are insane. |
Do you even have a nanny? |
No, but I am a nanny and I would resent you for making me make up snow days. Let's just hope your nanny doesn't feel the same way. |
I do actually. She has been with us for three year since our first was born. I am saying that to preempt all the crappy remarks which are probably about to come that nanny would stay with me. I would like to add that I also would not ever push a nanny to come on the weekend or help me out at night or whatever. But if she is out of her PTO and wants to not come in that's fine. She is not getting paid. The money goes to the back up sitters we have and I usually pay premium or snow days and arrange transportation since our nanny does not drive. So far our nanny bailed on us only once during a snow day and she was sick then I would like to add that |
