For My Birthday I Got... RSS feed

Today's my 24th Birthday (mixed feelings about that, lol). MB and DB really surprised me with an awesome gift... or gifts I should say:

A sweet card, cupcakes from the local bakery, a personalized ornament with a picture of the little one (they know I'm getting my first real Christmas tree soon) and, to top it all off, a $200 amazon gift card! This is my first (and last) "real" nanny position, and I'm simply amazed by, and grateful for, the sheer generosity of my employers.

Plus, MB let me off about 3 hours early!

I can't wait to surprise them with their Christmas gifts next week!!!

So fellow nannies, out of curiosity, what was the best birthday gift your employers every gave you?

MB and I are both Sephora Junkies and talk about makeup often. She surprised me with many of the prducts I had mentioned I was dying to try! The 3 boys (my loves!!) made me birthday cards and my NF took me to my favorite restaurant for lunch.
It sounds like you have a great family OP!

This is ridiculous on multiple levels. Firstly, there's no reason to have any sort of feelings except being grateful to be alive, about turning 24. Secondly, in the normal world, you may get a card and maybe taken for lunch or drinks but it is not run of the mill in this country for employers to give tangible gifts to their employees.

The Op didn't say she was dreading turning 24. Just the feeling of "oh another notch in the old belt" (that's what I say anyway!)

Chill.

I didn't say that OP said she was dreading turning 24. She also didn't say anything about another notch in the old belt. ???

You are right, it's not. That's presumably why OP was so obviously happy and grateful (I think awesome gifts was the exact phrasing). Way to try to rain on her parade.

ANYWHO...My last family gave me a customized travel mug with photos of my charges (I love using it and being able to remember them!) with a $100 bill inside. It was very thoughtful and generous.

In the US nanny world, it is run of the mill for employers to help celebrate the nanny's birthday. Some even host a party for her.

It isn't run of the mill, but it is a very kind gesture from an MB and should be/is very appreciated.

I just turned 24 too OP! Happy birthday!

My NF took me to Disney on Ice because I LOVE everything Disney. The kiddos each gave me a little ($5ish) gift each. One of them was a princess toy. Lol. They also made me cards. I loved it all!

Where are some you (24 year) nannies located?

I just turned 24 too, and my employers brought me cupcakes from my favorite bakery, made me a homemade bday card, and gave me a very generous gift card to one of my favorite stores. I was very surprised and extremely grateful!!!!!!

I once got 2 tickets to the kennedy center opera house for my fair lady, some desert and COACH accessories, dinner and a gift certificate for a spa massage. These are all from different clients in DC, MD, and VA . I've been a nanny for 15 years. I don't always get birthday presents from clients, but I'm appreciative if and when I do.
