Hi!
First off thanks for all the great work you do. Our nanny is great! She has been with our family for 1.5 year. Her children are grown and all over the world. She loves our kids and has become part of our family...she is more a mother to me then my own. I would like to do something nice for her. She doesn't like days off bc she has no family around. Last year we got her a piece of jewelry, went to dinner, cake and card. Any thoughts on what you would appreciate. I was thinking about canceling my office, coming home to tend to the babies and send her to the spa. |
| Cash always works for me. |

Nanny here - with my previous family I always got $ (my weekly pay), cake, flowers, handmade cards from the kids and some little gifts "from the kids" - gift cards, Starbucks card (my favorite!!), chocolates, etc.
At the end of the work day, usually an hour or two before I was done for the day, MB asked what I wanted for dinner, so we ordered takeout from my favorite Italian restaurant and then had a little celebration/dessert with cake and a glass of wine. I absolutely loved it and appreciated it every year

| Cash, gift card to fav place. A spa day to me sounds awesome |
| spa day would be great for me!! |

OOh...Nothing can beat a spa day OP!! You are the best!
If not that, a little ca$h money never hurts as well. |
Cash IS money. |
| Sounds like a perfect present to me, OP. |
| OP, spa day sounds wonderful, but I would give her a choice of dates rather that selecting the date yourself. What if she'd rather spent a free birthday evening with her family and then went to a spa on a weekend? |
| Spa day would be terrific. I think that would be a nice surprise for her. |

I've received, cash, dessert, a gift card, tickets to a musical for my mother and I, and a massage at a nearby spa. I enjoyed all of these things.
p.s. You sound like a thoughtful, and amazing employer, and give me hope that i'll find a good fit soon. |

I'd do a spa gift certificate, and if you can, coordinate the visit on a day you can come home early to take over the kids.
I think cash is tacky for a birthday present. |
| How much are people giving who give cash? |
How much are you going to give her for the spa? IMO, you can't really go to a spa and spend less than $200. That's a lot to spend on a birthday gift for your nanny. |
