How much is reasonable to pay my nanny for having my son at her house while i am in a business trip? It will be 24/7 my Ds is 3 |
Some people negotiate a flat day rate, especially if the goal is to avoid paying time and a half for the entire trip. But it is pretty typical to pay her regular rate during the child's awake hours, plus a flat overnight fee of $50 to $100 per night.
You'll also need to figure out how to handle meals. You could send groceries or prepared meals, give her a budget to figure it out on her own, or simply roll those costs into the flat overnight fee and pay at the higher end of the range. |
How many days/nights will you be gone? |
Regular daily rate plus applicable OT pay for all of DS' waking hours.
Flat rate for sleeping - typically set by the nanny herself and anywhere from $50-$150 (probably on the cheaper end since it's at her house). All food either provided for your son or you can talk to her about food costs/reimbursement. |

well, technically all a nanny's hours are supposed to be paid at an hourly rate. but the flat rate might be customary for many people. |
On a strict legal basis, for a 24 hour shift, you can pay hourly for 16 hours (OT for any hours over 40 in that week) and not pay at all for 8 hours of sleep time. This assumes that no duties needed to be done during sleep time. If that's not the case, you have to pay for the time she was awake and working. Most people don't do it that way, but, it often comes out better for the nanny to do a flat overnight rate. |
I ll be out for 8 days and my DS sometimes wakes up in the middle of the night but if I pay her hourly it will be an amount that i cannot afford, i will opt for a flat rate and food expenses. Hope it is fair |
Doesn't really sound fair but it's up to your nanny, not us. |
I work with a few families on overnights.
Any waking hours I'm paid my hourly rate. Once kids are in bed asleep I get a flat rate. If a kid wakes up at anytime I am back on hourly. My main nanny family the children are in bed asleep at 830 and up at 8. Very very rarly does anyone wake at night. Now flip side one family there youngest is 18 months and can be up every 3 hours. Which sucks. but great pay ![]() But I prefer my fulltime nanny job. The kids sleep, I may make less on over nights but I love my sleep. |
8 days is 192 hrs. if you pay her 15 per then your total is $2880. round up to $3k and give her the overage ($220) in advance to pay for food and activities for the week. As an MB and a mom to a 3 yo i know that they can certainly eat and play through $220 in a week! Good luck |
