Monday 12-6 (early dismissal school)
Tuesday 12-6
Wednesday 2-10
Thursday 2-6
Friday 12-6
Total 30 hours per week

Laundry, tidying up, dishes, pick up son from kindergarten, give him a snack, fix dinner 2-3x per week.
Thorough deep clean every 2 weeks.

Is $500/week reasonable for 30 hours per week?

It's acceptable but on the lower end concerning you're looking for a deep clean every 2 weeks and only part time hours. At $500/week you're offering $16.67/hour, but I think this job calls for closer to $18/hour or $540/week.

Right now we pay a PT nanny $15/hr for tidying up, laundry, dishes and light cooking. She will also watch our kids for the same rate.

Then we pay another person $150 every two weeks for a deep clean. A team of 2-3 usually comes and cleans for about 2 hours.

I was trying to combine the two.

The deep clean is really going to drive up the rates. Most nannies are not interested in doing a deep cleaning, and if they are they're going to charge for it. For an every two week cleaning, you're probably better off hiring a cleaning service.

Part-time is really supposed to start at $20-$15 to $18 an hour are the low to high end for full-time. As far as deep cleaning, not reall sure!

You need to ask a housekeeper.

I don't know any nannies who do deep cleanings. That doesn't fall under childcare. My rates vary from $17-20 an hour strictly for childcare and I have been in the business for 10+ years. I'm happy to help out with children's laundry, meal prep, and even household management but you will never find a real nanny on her hands and knees scrubbing your toilets. You are better off looking for a housekeeper who has childcare experience. You might luck out and find someone who will do the deep cleaning but be prepared to pay at least $20 an hour, possibly even more.

I think you could easily find someone for a fair rate for everything OTHER than for the deep cleaning part. Sorry, but most people that would want to take this position will NOT want to deep clean for you. You are better off hiring a separate cleaner to come in once every 2 weeks to do this, and someone that comes for the childcare and basic child-related cleaning throughout the week.

I agree.

OR, offer the deep cleaning job to your nanny but as a completely independent job that she is paid for separately (basically you'd be hiring her to do what your cleaners do, and probably at the same rate they charge - you could negotiate to make it a little lower if she did it during regular nanny hours, or pay her the full rate if she did the deep cleaning as an extension of one of her days).

That reminds me that I forgot to ask WHEN the deep cleaning was to be done? During those hours above when she has the child? No one is going to be deep cleaning anything while with the child. People don't even like to deep clean with a child AROUND, much less one that they are supposed to be watching as well. So the deep cleaning really would have to be dealt with separately, with a different schedule and a different pay rate than the approx $16/hr for childcare.

OP here. It sounds like we should keep a similar set up then. We currently have different people doing a deep clean.

Our current nanny/housekeeper is great but she absolutely does not do bathrooms and also does not like to take out trash. She is good with laundry, cooking and cleaning the kitchen and toys. She used to be 80% nanny/20% housekeeper but now she is more 80% housekeeper/20% nanny. She will watch our kids for a few hours here and there but not regularly.

OP again. Our nanny actually asked us if we could give her the deep clean role sometime last year when we let her go from FT to PT due to our younger child starting preschool. She did not do nearly as good of a job. I gave her the benefit of the doubt and gave her a second chance. Our family left Saturday morning and told her we would pay her a set rate and that she could leave when she was done cleaning. She ended up doing even less than what she normally does except she barely cleaned the bathrooms. The hourly rate was quadruple what we normally pay her because she left in 2 hours.

We went back to our cleaning people and our nanny only spot cleans for us.

Should I even continue calling her our nanny? I'm so used to calling her that since she watched my younger son for almost 2 years. She is more our housekeeper now.

MB here. Scratch the deep clean. That's just not right to expect from a nanny. Just because a nanny provides childcare and willing to do light chores, does not mean they're full-on housekeepers. It's not fair to them. Some may be willing out of obligation, but it makes things weird. My nanny just starting washing out clothes because she kept asking to do it for the past two years and I had a change in my schedule where I less time to do it. It was weird for me, but I'm grateful she decided to do it. I will not ask her for deep cleaning. That's something I do myself and/or higher out once per month. Remember, you want the person taking care of your children to be focused on your children and feel truly appreciated.

Sorry, I wasn't clear on my post. DH and I have flexible schedules and one parent should be able to be home by 4. I am going to try to negotiate working a half day on Mondays. However, DH and I cannot commit to being able to pick up our son at 3:20 at school everyday. We could probably commit to 4 but not 3:20. We would need our nanny to pick up our son from school. We live exactly 1 mile from the school so I'm not sure if we will qualify for bus service. We basically need 1 hour of childcare per day. The majority of the job will be housekeeping.

DH and I want to be the one to do homework with DS, take him to soccer, ride bikes together, etc.
