Hi,

I would like to offer my nanny health insurance. I am looking for some facts here:

1.) How much do you pay how much does she pay?
2.) What company do you use?
3.) Is there a group umbrella that we could join so it is not an individual policy (as these make me nervous as they can drop you in an instant if you get very ill).

Please advise.

Cost is really dependent upon a lot of factors- age, location, coverage, etc.. Most nanny employers seem to offer a set amount per month towards coverage.

I've never heard of a group umbrella that people can join. I've always had to have an individual policy.

Yes, this. We used ehealth for our nanny - it was a great way to explore options and coverage levels. The costs were pretty variable so it's helpful to have a sense of what is most important (specialty care, local providers, etc...).

We give our nanny a monthly amount towards her insurance - we don't cover it all. This was the cleanest solution for us and lets her have the policies free-standing from us so she can take them with her wherever she goes.

We reimburse our nanny $500 per month for PPO dental and health insurance. We pay for it by separate check and keep her bills and policy on file.
