Today was my morning off (I am a nanny for a 7,5 and 3 year all who are in school) and I was sitting in grocery store parking lot on the phone when I saw my nanny friend walk into grocery store. The nanny friend works for the family that I used to work but I was fired because I did not have new born experience(they have a baby on the way) and wanted to train someone sooner than later. I am in a tight group of nanny friends and we all welcome new nanny into group just as normal. Anyways, I noticed she didn't have her 20 month old charge with her in tow and thought it was weird because she has the child 40-45 hours a week most of the time. She has always complained about never getting a day off during week so i thought it was strange she was by herself. I also know the schedule because i used to do it as well.
I get off phone and when i walk past her car I notice the 20 month old in the car by herself. She is SCREAMING in her carseat, full on upset, and I thought about going to get friend but didn't want to look like a "i know everything and you don't" type of person. I sat and watched the little girl to make sure nothing happened and was going to call the police after 20 minutes hoping she would hurry and come back out, and she never did for 20-30 minutes. By then i had realized i had let it go on too long and now i feel awful. I can't say anything to the family because they will just think i am the bitter old nanny who got fired or that i'm just starting trouble. So what would you do? |
So the child is sitting in the hot car screaming and its getting hotter and you just sat outside and waited?
Here: http://www.weather.com/newscenter/specialtopics/slideshows/hotcar061909.html That's how much the car temperature rises when it is 90 degrees outside. 109 degrees in 10 minutes, 119 degrees in 20 minutes. 124 degrees in 30 minutes. 133 degrees in 60 minutes. 138 degrees in 90 minutes. Next time, call the police. |
You need to call the parents. You know the nanny so you probably know her employers. Is this a fun thing to do? No, its not. However, if you care about kids you MUST do this. This nanny will do this again and next time the baby could be injured or dead. Ask yourself how you would feel if this happens. Losing a friend is nothing compared to letting your friend harm a child.
|
I would assume you know the nanny's phone number since she is a friend? I would have called her right away and told her to get her butt to the car. |
If you dont think parents will believe you, you still need to say something to nanny or she'll do it again and baby might not be so lucky next time. Tell her how you saw all of that and explain how dangerous that is. Either something can happen to baby or even if she is caught by police she will have misdemeanor charges, possibly go to jail and a record all because of her laziness. Say something. You should've taken a picture.... |
Call the parents and give an fyi.
I say dd in the car at x store at x time until x time alone. Next time call the cops. We aren't talking about her paying for gas and leaving the kid in the car. she went in the grocery store. even getting a gallon of milk can take 20 minutes. |
You absolutely should have called the police. This really isn't a grey area at all.
And you have to tell the parents. Give the exact details - day, time, location, duration, etc... |
I don't get it - you used to care for this child but you sat and watched her screaming for 30 minutes in a locked car?
This can't be real. No one could watch this and not take action. Let alone someone who knows the child AND the nanny? I call troll. |
Was this before or after you baby at playground? People. her wroting style gives the TROLL away every time she posts. |
Should have been. ,"after you lost baby..." |
If this is a real post, you would have called your former employers and the police. End of story. |
Troll is ruining the nanny forum. But I guess she has to spend her time doing something since she is obviously unemployed. ALthough doesn't take a genius to figure out WHY she's unemployed lol |
What I don't understand is if troll is a nanny, why she would continuously try to discredit nannies and do everything she can to villainize them. If she is not a nanny, why is she so obsessed with trying to make nannies look bad? Makes absolutely no sense...probably a personality disorder. |
I assumed she was an unemployed nanny (through her own fault, not the economy) who was bitter about it so was trying to make all nannies look bad. Or in some cases MBs. I don't think all of her posts have been negative towards Nannies. |
Wow are you that clueless! You have ZERO childcare experience, not just infant..
You're so worried about your former employers not believing you but guess what, if you had contacted police and they came then they would be the 'witness' that would convince your former employers but instead you let the child scream in a locked, over-heated vehicle. Please get a job at Burger King or something. |
