One of my Facebook "friends" posted this video of this woman beating the tar out of her charge (an 11-month-old boy). I don't watch these types of videos, so I don't know what happened but it was apparently so bad many felt it was a miracle the boy survived.
The comments under the video really upset me. A lot of nanny bashing, as well as bashing parents who send their child to daycare or have nannies. "I would never leave my child with someone who is not family, I love them too much!" "This is why our world is so [explicit]. Babies need their mommies, not some psycho stranger." I'm a nanny, and these comment really hurt my feelings. I can only imagine what a parent who isn't able to stay home with her children may feel. Why are people letting these few monstrosities rule their entire perception of people who are in reality really nice people, who genuinely love and care children. I had a good friend comment about how poorly she thought of nannies, and how she could never trust one and I really wanted to comment "Do you trust me? Do you think I'd do such horrid things to anyone? Especially a child?" Bad things happen, there are no excuses. I just don't understand why people let fear rule them, and use these to feed their prejudices (anti-women in the work field). |
This happens because being a "nanny" has zero requirements. |
What are you talking about? Of course it has requirements. If you are a troll, troll harder. |
Which "requirements" do you suppose the abusive "nanny" had? |
Being a parent has zero requirements beyond possessing a uterus in most cases. Sometimes people do horrible things. At least with nannies, parents can check references and install cameras. If you believe that being a nanny has zero requirements you are either not a nanny or haven't been interviewed by the right families. |
A lot of cheapskates hire unqualified, unfit nannies and pay them shit wages just so they can appear wealthy and brag to their friends and family that they have a nanny. Having a nanny is definitely seen as a luxury that most people cannot afford and people care too damn much about how they appear to their social circle. If you want to hire a nanny, do your research and make sure you can actually afford one. Stop putting the lives of your children at risk by hiring unqualified people because you want to look like you lead an extravagant life. |
Very well said. Thank you. |
So you're saying this mother must have paid her nanny a slave wage? Nannies have excuses for everything. Paying over market rate for a 'professional' isn't going to ensure that a nanny still wont abuse their charges. Alot of nannies get taken advantage of but still treat the kids very well, while some others get paid well but still have the lack of impulse control and lash out at kids. A very small amount enjoy it. It could happen to anyone so stop throwing the payrate and somehow turning this on cheap parents because it has nothing to do with cheap parents. Truth is, nobody can be fully trusted even a nanny will 20+ years experience with an ECE background. I personally wouldn't trust any stranger with my children no matter how many background checks come up clean. |
1:39 is the mad woman who won't come clean about what she does. |
Then why are you on the nanny forum again? |
Way to completely misunderstand what the point of this thread was SAHM with too much time on her hands. No one said that nannies turn to violence because they are underpaid. That's ludicrous. We hear of one nanny abuse story maybe two a year, versus the hundreds of cases of parental abuse. Like the previous poster stated, any idiot with a womb can become a parent. The PP mentioned that many parents don't know how to go about hiring a nanny, so they just pick some random woman who has ok credentials. I don't know the background on this family, but I think this woman was more of a babysitter than a nanny. Where are all the stories of the nannies who love and cuddle with their charges? I assure you, you will find WAY more of those. Congrats on being so hands on, and not letting your child out of your sight. I'm sure they will grow up really well adjusted *chop* *chop* *chop* |
