So you're saying this mother must have paid her nanny a slave wage? Nannies have excuses for everything. Paying over market rate for a 'professional' isn't going to ensure that a nanny still wont abuse their charges. Alot of nannies get taken advantage of but still treat the kids very well, while some others get paid well but still have the lack of impulse control and lash out at kids. A very small amount enjoy it. It could happen to anyone so stop throwing the payrate and somehow turning this on cheap parents because it has nothing to do with cheap parents. Truth is, nobody can be fully trusted even a nanny will 20+ years experience with an ECE background. I personally wouldn't trust any stranger with my children no matter how many background checks come up clean.[/quote]

Way to completely misunderstand what the point of this thread was SAHM with too much time on her hands.

No one said that nannies turn to violence because they are underpaid.  That's ludicrous.  We hear of one nanny abuse story maybe two a year, versus the hundreds of cases of parental abuse.  Like the previous poster stated, any idiot with a womb can become a parent.  The PP mentioned that many parents don't know how to go about hiring a nanny, so they just pick some random woman who has ok credentials.  I don't know the background on this family, but I think this woman was more of a babysitter than a nanny.  Where are all the stories of the nannies who love and cuddle with their charges?  I assure you, you will find WAY more of those.
