Yeah, this nanny is crazy.
I will say that in my nanny contracts, we always specified that the nanny got X vacation days to use as she pleased, and that we, the parents, would also take a full week of vacation at a time of our choosing, with at least 4-6 weeks notice, when the nanny would be paid for her time off as well. So in the case of language like that, this trip obviously would not count towards the time of our choosing. But yeah, any other vacation time that the parents take and give the nanny off is an extra, not a requirement. |
I’ve had a lot of families do this. Instead of trying to find back up care they take the time off as well and go on a vacation. Of course I don’t get the pto back they used there’s to cover mine . |
WTH is GH? Spell it out. |
Why is this weaselly of the family? The nanny gets the same guaranteed hours no matter what. If the family want to plan a vacation while the nanny is using her PTO that doesn't mean that the nanny doesn't get to use the rest of her PTO. I frequently will do a quick long weekend trip while my nanny is away- if I need childcare, might as well take PTO from my job and have a day off with my kids. |
OP, are you the nanny in this situation? |
OP here.
Not the nanny. To answer an earlier question, in this situation the nanny's vacation is using paid PTO hours requested in advance. |
OP again. GH is guaranteed hours. |
Family decided to go on vacation after nanny put in for PTO. None of her business.
If she wanted to be paid under GH, then she would need to be at the house doing light housework. At least that's our arrangement with our nanny. |
I would start interviewing new nannies. This is beyond entitled and just ridiculous. |
That nanny is being ridiculous. If the family legit is planning their own time off around her selected time off, absolutely not GH. |
