If this is a troll it's a nanny. |
IRS always goes after the cash cow, and it ain’t the nanny. |
The IRS to the nanny: “oh you earned $50k under the table and didn’t pay a dime of federal taxes? Cool cool cool, we will let that go and just go get social security and Medicare taxes from your “cash cow” employer, even though that’s less than we would collect from you” |

I'm thinking this post was written by the nanny who didn't get paid.
A nanny leaving a family in the lurch, with no warning, is really bad. You did not say what your family emergency was and whether it was a true emergency. Most family emergencies that are sudden are also temporary and you could be back in a few days. Something more long term would not need to be so sudden. Your story does not add up. Also, you didn't say her situation and how much she truly depends on you, versus could have someone step in or step in herself, etc. Not trying to brush off whatever your family emergency was... but I can't tell you how many babysitters I've had who've had their grandmother supposedly die while working for me... way to many for this excuse to actually be true. But obviously I'm not going to call them out on it because you never really know, so they get a few days off. Maybe the mom suspected that you don't actually have a family emergency. Maybe you've been unreliable in the past so tensions are already built up. And to the people that are saying she must've done something really bad for you to quit on the spot... how do they you're not the bad one? It could be either one of you, as you've told us nothing about the background of the situation. She should've paid you, but I don't blame her for being pissed. |
It doesn’t matter if she’s “pissed.” It doesn’t matter if she doesn’t believe there was an emergency. The nanny worked the day. You pay her. PERIOD. (a mom, not a nanny) |
Wait. You don’t (or didn’t) have a contract? Then why does she have to give a notice period? There’s nothing in writing that says she needed to give a notice because YOU DIDNT HAVE A CONTRACT
Shocker how that works |
She worked, she gets paid. This is not optional. |
