I think every family has their precautions / restrictions. We are extremely cautious re COVID due to 3 immunocompromised kids. Our Au pair is not able to eat indoors at restaurants, attend bar gatherings / large parties, etc (my husband and I also do not do these things). Pre Omicron when the rates were lower, she had more flexibility (though still no indoor restaurants or large indoor parties), but could meet up indoors with other AP’s, go to large outdoor events and more. We reimposed some restrictions (similar to what she had when she first arrived here) during this last wave. She extended with us, so I am guessing the pro’s outweighs the con’s.

She has done a few parties that she was extremely upfront about and we talked about it (New Years Eve, Christmas, etc) and wore a mask in the house for a few days after those events.

We are a great host family who have hosted for years though - 3 upper elementary school aged kids, 20-25 hours most weeks, etc.
