I wasn't very busy at my job today downtown at my firm. I did not lower my rate.

You missed the point of the post.
At Firm A you have top tier responsibilities with commensurate earnings let’s say $X per hour
If you go work for Firm B effectively slashing all your responsibilities... ... it is reasonable to wonder if you still “deserve” $x/hr
