For those of you that cancelled your matches and left the program, did you get your matching fee back ($300 with cultural care)?

Au pair care is the worst... wont give our money back, only says we have credit.

Oh wow really? Nothing ? We haven’t cancelled our match with them yet but will probably have to soon. I was hoping to get my refund of $1000!

CC has made very clear that the $300 is non-refundable.

Are you sure about this? I just received this email from my APC matching coordinator "If the refund is due to the Presential Proclamation, then you will receive a full refund".

That sux.

Our AP cancelled our extension year with us a week before her second year was to start. She went from beloved family member to awkward roommate in a matter of minutes, and moved out days later. My kids were confused and sad. She's in CA now, so she thinks she'll be happy.

APC returned all our fees.

We just matched with an au pair for an October arrival... hoping to qualify for special needs waiver.

Don't do it, they'll leave immediately and get rematched to an easier family

That's an interesting thought. I did not think about it. But I guess you are right, the waver applies to the visa application and once the APs are here, they can rematch in a heartbeat! Oh boy.

At least you got a match. I've been getting a whole lot of nothing. European au pairs simply aren't responding plus a few South Africans. A few gave me the courtesy of letting me know they're withdrawing from the program or postponing until next summer though.

Have not tried South Americans. I'm wary of how desperate some sound because they're about to age out.

We also would qualify under the exceptions due to medical issues. I am frankly worried about au pairs being realistic about life here during the pandemic.

This is why I am hesistant to bring our aupair over still even though we qualify for an exemption. Absolutely nothing stopping her from rematching once she is here. I am not prepared to keep bringing aupairs over from out of country. The reality is that this year will mean a lot less travel and a lot more drama trying to share a home with someone who may not be excited about being in the house fulltime again this winter. If we didn't have our aupair until January, I'm not sure I would be trying to host again right now.

Too many people available for babysitting in the evenings.

This! Our AP got her visa before the visa ban and we told her not to come. I cannot handle another moody and unhappy person in my household. DH and I are enough.

Same same same. I’ll take a new au pair as soon as I am comfortable with her traveling as much as she wants. I feel like taking an au pair right now given my own personal comfort level with Covid exposure is just cruel to the au pair and not consistent with the spirit of the program.

Agree that getting an AP now would be too hard. No trips, no restaurants, no friends over. I don’t want to have to police another person’s covid exposure. And what would be the point for the AP?
