Thank you for all the constructive suggestions. I talked to her today and she said that she is very happy about new ideas of what she could do with the kids. So looks like we are good to go! (And I will remember the glitter warning. Thank you!)

Will you be paying extra for this extra service? Or are you just doing job creep with no pay?

Stop, please. This is not “job creep”. This is the ever changing life of a nanny who encourages growth and learning in the charges. It’s like thinking you deserve more money when the child starts walking or drops a nap. It’s not a service to teach your charges.

+1. Engaging your charges in a new and age appropriate way is not job creep. You’re going to nickel-and-dime your way out of a job by being stupid.

I think it depends. If the nanny has been getting raises (minimum col) over the years, if she’s well treated and respected, I can completely understand adding in educational activities without asking for more pay. If she hasn’t, I also understand using the next logical step of educating the children as reason for a raise. Of course, most nannies who are respected, treated and compensated well would have already taken steps to either bring the need to the parents’ attention, or they would have simply started doing activities.

Of course it is job creep as no nanny is hired to teach school. Children go to pre schools, elementary school are taught by qualified and licensed teachers. This is not an ever evevolving part of her job.

? I am a nanny and was hired precisely to teach and care for my charges. You must be confusing nanny with babysitter, PP. All nannies are teachers.

Adding an educational element per the employers instruction is not “job creep”. The nanny is being asked to engage differently not in additionally.

If a nanny hasn’t been getting raises and hasn’t been treated with respect, she should quit regardless of educational components being added or not.

This is the first time that we have a nanny. Before the pandemic, the kids (3&4) were at home with me and later at preschool. We now have a nanny who seems wonderful. The kids seem to love her. I have been doing some research and found some age-appropriate resources of things that the nanny can do that are similar to what the kids were doing at preschool. It involves print-outs, story telling, crafts, etc. As a nanny, would you be offended if I asked you to spend a couple of hours each day on those activities. I am happy to do all the prep the night before.

I would actually love that my MB or DB where so involved with their kids that they are giving me suggestions.

SOME kids go to preschool. Others stay home and do activities with the nanny (or sitter or mom) before going to kinder.

What do you do with kids before they go to preschool? What do you do if the parents decide not to send their kids to preschool?
