Nurses, PA’s and doctors do it all the time.

And are paid accordingly, and have legal job protection. Nannies often have some bimbo parent who never had an employee before. Thank you.

That said - I’ve never nannies for twins and a toddler before. I think you were right in asking one of the parents to stay home due to the sheer work load and wanting the well-kids to stay away from the sick one.

Nannies vary on this question. I am firmly in the camp that cares for the child no matter what. Other nannies I respect refuse to care for contagious kids. Only you can decide which camp you’re in.

Hope you never have to use up “your” sick leave, while you recover from job induced illnesses.

Why did you quote “your”?

I have never once used up all my sick days. I haven’t missed a day of work due to illness in over two years and during that time my charges have been sick. I’m healthy and have good hygiene.

You wrote “no employee”, dear. Nurses, PA’s and doctors are employees so you’ve been proven wrong.

You’re welcome! I love helping the less educated!

You were exposed long before the child started vomiting, OP.

And if this family gets “stomach bugs” frequently, you should look for food poisoning. Something is very wrong with a family that pukes that much.

The point of hiring a nanny so so they will work when your kids are sick so you can work.

As a Nanny you take care of sick kids, that’s part of your job. I used to be a Nanny and this was assumed. As a parent to a 7yo who has had a stomach bug maybe 3times in her life I have cared for her and never gotten sick. Our immune system is different from theirs.

Children who are sick with vomiting and high fever are parents responsibility and nannies should me rt be asked, or expected, to care for them. Hire a nurse.

I am a nanny who has always cared for sick kids. It never occurred to me not to.

This. Unless the family was away for a week before the onset of symptoms, the nanny was exposed.

Nannies take care of sick kids. It's part of the reason people hire nannies. Period. If you don't wish to care for sick children even vomiting ones you should not be a nanny. It's like saying you are willing to change wet diapers but not poop diapers.Seriously.

I wouldn’t expect a Nanny to care for a child who is vomiting & has a stomach bug.

The parents that take this as a given are simply selfish, inconsiderate + not too bright.

You really think a parent cannot get fired? You really think those job protections are great? Nurses, doctors and others have appointments they cannot just cancel which is why they hire nannies.

Its not selfish. You hire a nanny so you get that care. Some people cannot take off of work easily. Clearly you've never had a job like that.

Anonymous wrote:OP here. I am ok taking care of sick kids. I am not ok taking care of throwing up children with a stomach bug. In my personal opinion when they are that sick they need mommy & daddy snuggles. I am more then going to get it if I am being the on le caring for them. Then parents will need to take off work anyway. Why not take it off when their kids are sick.

You’re not listening. Some parents have very, very limited time off (including sick days), and they can’t afford to take off unless THEY are sick. Kids get sick a lot when they’re little. That’s why they hire a nanny.
