Not crazy at all considering she passed up other jobs to take yours and her job search begins again. You do owe I to her, OP. One day to one year service deserves a month’s severance unless otherwise stated in your contract when she is being fired for things out of her control. This nanny did nothing wrong.

Nope. Totally crazy to give anything more than one week of severance. This is why DH and I put new employees on probation their first three months.

And why you clearly go through so many employees.

Lol, no. We've only ever had one nanny. DH owns a business. It's expanded, he's had to hire for that.

A month's severance is absurd, unless it's in the contract. Two weeks is fine.

Two just weeks is unfair. This nanny did nothing wrong and took the job in good faith. It takes more than two weeks to find a new job. Anything less than a month is simply wrong.

How many MBs have been let go with no fault and received no severance? I got three months severance plus healthcare insurance for three months.

+1. I’ve never been let go but my company gives several months for layoffs. DH is a college instructor and his colleagues get a full semester’s pay when their departments are cut.

I feel bad for anyone - parent or nanny - who gets less than a month or two to get back on their feet.
