Totally normal. Honestly I prefer my APs to travel and hang out with friends as much as possible. As long as they are providing satisfactory care for my kids, what they do on their own time is their own business. This is much better than the one AP we had who would wake up early on Saturday morning and ask us "So what is our plan for the day".

I doubt that girl did that on every Saturday, did she ?

I see it as she wanted to do something fun with you on her time off. It was easy to tell her you're going to relax and that she should go out and explore.
Maybe she was a family girl.

This is my au pair exactly. Every weekend day she asks what we are doing for the day. Every evening she confiscates the remote and falls asleep on the couch. She has her own apartment with her own television - no matter. She just walks into the room and says: "politics again? Blecch! Boring!" and turns off MSNBC and watches a show about ninjas or masked singers or similar.
