when should we tell AP that we are leaving the program? RSS feed

I posted here before saying she shouldn’t have the au pair rematch
I like the idea of sending the kids to daycare and still keeping the au pair

I understand things come up and needs change, people lose jobs, get sick, family members pass away

But deciding to have child start preschool and having au pair rematch because of that, is really not fair! That is not an emergency and good reason enough to do this to the au pair.
Like I said, I was a former au pair and I would have felt really terrible if that happened to me at the age of 19, and would have taken away the best year of my life
Referring to this not being an emergency

And I’m sure professional nanny’s would feel the same way, you just don’t treat people like that

The poster who said “treat people like you want to be treated”
Does that mean if you were a nanny, you’d be ok/happy with this? Obviously not duh!

You kept saying it was the best year of your life. Nobody is guaranteed the best year of their life as an au pair. It's a job. As long as OP treats her fairly, her ap is not owed anything.

Maybe you should read and understand before responding? When I say “treat people like you want to be treated” I am asking OP to treat AP fairly!

OP here: We talked with our AP and all is good. Very glad we decided to tell her sooner rather than later.
