So basically the nanny's boss will be watching (or within earshot) all day long. What if nanny wants to just sit on the couch and look at her phone while the kids are napping? What if she has to poop? It's going to cost you more because you are always there.

MB - NP. A reasonable boss would be fine with this unless something needed to be done urgently. I know I would be. We pay $19 but we do guarantee overtime each week, pay for health and dental insurance and have very generous leave (5 weeks).

That was a typo! $17, not $19! Works for us and nanny. She can also eat all her meals here (we buy the food).

Most of us know: You get what you pay for. Nothing good comes cheap.

You aren’t entitled to quality childcare just because you “comfortably afford” whatever that number is for you. Please stop trying to mislead parents here. If, however, you know of a decent sitter who will take this job for $20., please post her contact here. Thanks!

This fight never ends and is ridiculous. I have found plenty of qualified nannies for $20/ hour. You can always start there and then adjust up if you aren't happy with the candidates. The nanny has a choice to accept your position or not. No one is forcing them to take a job at that price.

Not every parent has time to start at the bottom end.

I am sorry I ever posted this question. Thank you to the reasonable parents/nannys out there who responded. I do plan on having open lines of communication with my nanny and if she wants to poop or look at her phone to take a break while the kids nap that is fine!!!! God, some of you people are so negative and act like everyone looking for a nanny is an overbearing micromanager. That is not me. As others have posted I will offer what my family can afford and we will see who is interested.

Everyone needs to take a chill pill.

We found plenty of good candidates at $15/hour, with guaranteed hours, PTO and paid federal holidays. Shocking the number of parents who think they don’t need to guarantee a monthly wage.

I’m sorry too.

You should’ve just looked at previous threads. The question has been asked dozens of times. The answer is always the same, list what you can afford and see who applies.
