I agree with PP, I think you should just look for a new job. We all love our charges, and you can still see them, but this is your job/career and you have to look out for yourself first. I will add that you are unlikely to get the benefits and pay that some nannies get due to your English. I’m not sure what other qualifications you have, but your English stands out in all your posts.


Op here, thanks for your helpful advice. I didn’t know one week is going to be on my choice and other week going to be their choice.
I just want to get few federal holidays. I am aware about my English and I am working on that.
Besides English I speak , write and read five different languages very well . The reason most of families wants to hire me is I teach their kids different languages ( they know their kids will learn English at school and social life) the family I am working are from Iran . They are very glad that there kids learning Persian . But, I appreciate your advice and I am improving my English. I came from country where we used to study English in high school.

It sounds pretty fair to me OP.

One week they choose & another week you get to choose.

However I agree that they should give you more than two weeks of notice if they will be leaving town.
It’s a nice consideration at best.

I would also like Federal Holidays paid.
And to get a few paid sick days.

Ask them to give at least one month notice of when they wil travel, so that you can book travel for yourself. Make sure they know that it’s a vacation week coinciding with their vacation, and you won’t be available that week if their plans fall through. The other weeks aren’t vacation, so you’ll need to be available in case their plans change.

Why do you need more than 5 days of vacation in addition to days when you get extra rest because family is on vacation?

You may need it and want it but if you look around at other jobs for this pay level, 5 days is pretty standard.

If you want to go work at Target, you earn 1 week of vacation after working there a full year.

In addition, working for a family is not like working at a huge corporation where if the papers don't get shuffled that week, nothing really happens. It's hard for families to figure out what to do that week.

It's really like you do get 2 weeks anyway on the weeks your family chooses. I pick all my vacation days when work is slow for me even though I'm MB at a salaried job. Professional MBs have to often get their leave approved and if there are major project deadlines, MB doesn't get to take off. So you complaining that you don't get that second week of vacation because you don't get to pick the time doesn't really make sense.
