Parents with nannies vs. parents without nannies

I’ve started most of my nanny positions with first time parents when my charges were under 6 weeks old. Many many many of these families don’t believe it’s possible to perform tasks parents without nannies do daily.

My last three families have been very bad about this. Neither parent believes they can take any of their children out of the houses by themselves. They don’t believe it’s possible to get ready for work and watch their children at the same time. They don’t think it’s possible to cook or clean when in charge of their own children.

Of course, it’s much easier to do these tasks with help, but they are possible. It’s harder and a pain, but doable. My current set of parents don’t think it’s possible to bathe their infant alone.

Now I’ve had some parents who could do it all, and often better than I can. But it seems like nannies become crutches for a lot of people.

Well sure, OP. Just about all first time parents of a newborn lack confidence. Most parents who have never bathed a newborn are nervous about doing it the first several times. It takes several months, if not a couple years for new parents to get their "sea legs" and feel confident in their parenting abilities. There is nothing wrong with that.

Most of these parents make me laugh. My mom raised 8 children, plant vegetable gardens, wash clothes with her hands, pressed the clothes had three meals on the table, and all this she did all on her own.

Dad went to work came home for hot lunch every day and after he left mom would start dinner which we all ate at 4:pm every day....no tv dinners all meals made from scratch. Then dad and us off to attend the animals and the harvest the fresh fruits that were ready for the picking.

Some of these people have one child and they can't handled a simple task. Yet when they have childcare providers they expect the childcare providers to pull down the house put it back up and still tend to the children's needs as well.

Thank God they only have one or two sometimes you will find some with three...God help them.
