.50 for a new baby is totally unacceptable..for example if they both pay $10 a hour for 1 you're saying the family with the new baby should only pay $10.50 I would never agree to that and I am a nanny. At a daycare they only off a 5% discount some don t offer a discount at all so parents need to take that into consideration instead of always trying to find a way to short change their nanny as if she or he doesn't have bills and a family of their own......I'm in a nanny share and ironically both parents got pregnant so now I care for 4 kids totally and both families agreed to pay an additional $4 so that's what I think this family should pay at least $4 and the family with 1 child pay the normal rate and give her a small raise annually. |
You didn’t understand my post. I said $.50 (for the RAISE if applicable) in addition to the increase for the new baby. |
OP, the way families we know in this situation have handled it is to negotiate a three-child rate with your nanny. Then you divide that by three, and each parent pays for their child. So when both your kids are in the share, you will pay 2/3 of the rate. I would probably set a new two- and three-child rate at the same time to account for the raise, and then in six months you go back to the two-child rate. |
I personally feel that the only fair solution to this issue is for the families involved to pay their fair share.
The family that has two children pay 2/3 while the family w/only one child pays 1/3. This simplifies everything & is the only fair solution that I can think of. |

OP, we soon will be in a similar circumstance (currently 2 families / 2 toddlers, looking to add an infant sibling). Views on this forum and elsewhere seem to be varied as to the right way to do this. Curious what you wound up doing, if you don't mind sharing! |
Not quite the same, but I will tell you how our share worked. SF area, so costs are high, and also was very experienced nanny.
Original child had private nanny at $25 hour. We added our infant to make a share, rate was $30/hr split even. (Other child was ~20 months.) Occasionally she'd care for a 3rd toddler/preschool child, and the 3 kid rate was (I think) $36hr and everyone paid $13/hr for a slight discount Or maybe it was $33/hr and we all paid $11/hr. Seems easiest to just establish a rate for 2 kids and 3 kids, and the other family's rate should drop slightly when you add a 3rd. |
