You should have given her an extra $100.00. |
|
Yeah, I would be pissed too. Apologize and get her a gift. Do it fast because I guarantee you she is looking for another job right now.
What if your sitter called an hour before you were supposed to leave and told you that she would be 90 minutes late? Would you be happy? |
|
You should have apologized profusely and assured her that it will never happen again.
And don't let it happen again. 5 or 10 minutes late on rare occasion because of traffic, or some related unusual circumstance is one thing. Arriving 90 minutes late, w/ no advance warning to your nanny, is disrespectful, thoughtless, inconsiderate and very damaging to the relationship. Would you be ok w/ her announcing she would be an hour and a half late w/ no notice? - MB |
| I would be very angry as well, OP. You gave no thought whatsoever to plans the babysitter might have had. Very inconsiderate on your part. |
|
OP I am a nanny and I would be mega mega cross!
My boss always lets me know as soon as possible that she will be late home. She recognises that I have plans for afterwork and need to do other things in my time off! Imagine you had dinner plans and then your boss walks in 10m before your finish time - sorry now you have to stay for an extra two hours. |
| I would have found out where you were and let you know I was bringing your kids to you or that you could pick them up at the nearest police station. That would have been the end of our relationship. You knew you were going to be late far before 6pm and you still didn't have the decency to tell her. You are just plain inconsiderate. |
+ perfect solution. |
And then when you fire her, go and claim unemployment |
I had someone do this within the first two weeks of working for them. They refused to divulge where they were, and there was no end time given, so I drove the kids to their parents house and left them there. Of course, the grandparents were glad to see the kids, kids got cap for dinner because grandparents weren't prepared (so kids were happy), I quit, and the parent threw a fit. There's zero excuse for this behavior. |
|
You were 90 minutes late. You didn't tell her until her shift was over that you would be late. You clearly knew that you were going to celebrate your sister's birthday well in advance.
You apologize profusely and make sure it never happens again. |
+1 Benjamins help in many situations. Still rude though. |
If it we're me, it would never happen again, because I would never sit for you again What's more, I would tell everyone I know what you did. |
| Op, please take note. Rarely is dcum in unanimous agreement! |
