Easy and relaxed? Working with kids is never that.

Did you read the OP? Her child will be at school so she only needs the nanny to watch him from 3pm. And yes I believe working with school age is easier as there is no diaper change, holding, mess to clean, walking around involved.

If you want someone reliable, you need to pay more than $12.50 per hour. Period.

Um, yes, I did read it. I do a similar job and it is not relaxing or easy. Laidback at times, of course, but not relaxed. Like I said before, working with children in any form is rarely relaxing unless you have it very good.

I agree. The only kind of candidate who would accept a rate so below market is someone who couldn't get a job at market rate, like maybe someone with zero experience looking for their first job or very elderly. I think you could offer maybe a dollar less than market (so in my city, $14/hr after tax) and find someone decent by talking up the downtime, but the risk is that you might attract the wrong kind of person, i.e., someone not hardworking.

Pick one who has a first job and you might have more luck. [b]Only other one around it is offering a full time wage for part time hours.

Don't do this. If you have the money for a full time wage, with older kids you can hire a nanny/housekeeper, and actually make your life 100% easier with a full time person who actually works full time hours. The other advantage is someone who can cover those random days off or sick days, especially the days after an acute illness where the kid is fine, but had a fever 23 hours earlier.

She can do the housekeeping, laundry, meals, and pick the kids, drive to activities and get them home and give them dinner, help with bath time. Advantage you will have less on your plate, a committed person and can get childcare tax break. Just treat her right and will last.

For $500 really? That's way under paid
