I would pay it for someone who was:
- mature
- capable
- extraordinarily reliable
- able to oversee homework
- able to prep dinner
- willing to regularly do light housekeeping (laundry, vacuuming)
- able to be available for occasional sick care or school holidays

I might even pay more if I thought the person could be a real godsend for a long period of time.

If I got someone mature, capable

I am an after school nanny. An after school nanny is usually there only about three hours a day.

That is not enough time to do the laundry and vacuum.

Say the kids get off the bus at 3.
From 3 to 3:45 is walk home from the bus stop, potty, snack, how was your day. Walk faster, vacuum while they eat snack. You don't need to ask about their day, I will do so when I get home.
3:45 to 4:45 is homework. Which I am right there helping them with. Fold clothes while the kids do homework, they should be doing it alone. If they have any questions I will help them when I get home.
4:45 to 5:10, sometimes I let the kids watch netflix, sometimes I have them clean their room, and sometimes they need to get ready for karate. While they are doing that, I feed the dog and sometimes take out the trash. Rarely, I have time to unload the dishwasher before either parents get home or I take the kids to karate.
Twice in the two years I have been with them have I vacuumed, and both times I did it after a parent came home, and both times it was because popcorn got spilled.

While the kids are watching Netflix you can do some housework.

If I could find this unicorn of a housekeeper/babysitter hybrid I would set it up so that the person started work an hour before the kids came home. That way there would be a dedicated hour each day for housekeeping - that would be more than sufficient in my opinion. But I'd also want that person to get my kids involved - make sure they are doing laundry, helping w/ chores, learning to cook simple meals, etc...

If I wanted a reliable and responsible adult, I would. And, as an adult, I would charge that much to commit my time to another family every day.

After school sitter only? Absolutely not. I pay someone $21/hr and here is what she does:
- all laundry
All grocery shopping
Basic meal prep
All errands (oil changes, Costco, dry cleaning)
Makes all beds
Straightens the house
Organizes closets, packs kids lunches for the next day
Gets kids off bus at 330, fixes them a snack, and makes sure they get physical activity
Sometimes drives them to after school activities
Helps them with homework, empties their backpacks and puts important papers out for me to review. Both children are straight A students.
She works all snow days and teacher work days if I ask.

She is a native English speaker, 50yrs old, flawless driving record, and has a college degree, but is doing this job because she was a career SAHM. She enjoys homemaking.

Worth it or not depends on the family.

My last afterschool gig I washed/dried/folded kids' laundry, started dinner for them a few times per week, drove them to activities, packed snacks and lunches, supervised homework and baths as needed. I also spent about 20 hours per week with their kids, was the first person they saw after a long day and the person who helped them learn how to unwind, communicate successfully with siblings and manage their time. If you were just picking them up from the bus stop, then it might not matter much, but even then I would want someone more competent than a teen to help tease out why my first grader is upset or my second grader is more amped than usual.

depend how many kids do you have.
