OP, run, don't walk away from these weird people! Why would you want such an employer if you can choose someone normal?
The car issue is irrelevant. Where you live is irrelevant. What is relevant is whether your are responsible, loving, and engaging with the kids. I hope you find someone better to work for soon. |
| Honestly I'm as engaging as I can be with the children. While I babysat the children mutiple times it was very random and speradic. With one family the kids were just starting to get comfortable abd in routine and then this. Like they use a long list of babysitters and I floated to the top of their list for a while. Then they found out where I lived and it was all over. |
| I'm trying but it almost feels like I've been blacklisted in the area over this |
|
OP -- No offense, but you sound like you've just decided this is the reason and you're not answering any posters who point out that there could be (and likely are) other reasons. I agree w/ PP who said it is *way* more likely something happened during your last sitting gig that they were unhappy about than that they were turned off by where you lived.
Honestly, your theory doesn't even make sense. The vast majority of DC folks who can afford to hire date night-type babysitters on a regular basis obviously realize that their babysitter earns far less money than them and likely lives in a "sketchier" neighborhood because of it. I don't know any nanny/babysitters who can afford to live out in NW or Capitol Hill; I assume my nanny/babysitters probably live in the MD suburbs or across the river. DH and I can barely afford where we live and we're a 2 income professional couple who live in a recently gentrified section of the Hill. Even if you have somehow been employed by the 2 families in DC who assumed babysitters lived in Georgetown, it is INCONCEIVABLE that you have been "blacklisted" in the area over this. Like, I'm really curious to see if there's a single poster who thinks that could have happened. |
| ^^ Sorry, I just saw that you lined up the families off of MOTH. So 2 families on the Hill "blacklisted" you from the Hill because you live farther out in NE or SE than them or in the MD suburbs? I'm sorry, but that didn't happen. That's where ALL nannys/babysitters on the Hill live. Every.single.one I've ever encountered. |
|
My nanny lives a 10 minute walk from me in Dupont. That's besides the point.
OP if they're not answering, you gotta move on. Part of life... |
where have you been all if my life ? (Nanny speaking ) Too many parents are selfish? and/or weak ! |
| I'm sick and tired of you guys over seeing the real issue here. DISCRIMINATION EXISTS! RACISM EXIST! These two issues are very well alive and are definitely growing in Washington, DC! Maybe when it happens to you or your child you'll understand. |
Sorry, but what does this have to do with this thread? Like the families only realized she was AA when they saw her neighborhood? WTF? |
+1000 |
| My thing is white people refuse to acknowledge racism. They think because they bring us into their homes and oayvus their money it's ok. The second they think you've wronged them they will pull every card to burn you. |
| As a AA this is something you are taught by your family young. |
Honestly nothing couldve happened. The children were asleep the whole time I was there and she dropped me home |
|
Of course racism and discrimination of all kinds is well and alive. I mean, look at who one of the presidential nominees is! But are you going to focus on that and let these people ruin your life? Or ignore them, move on, enjoy life because it's too short to spend stewing over some idiots? If this is really the reason they're not calling, be happy you are dodging a bullet, because who knows what other lovable traits they possess the would have surfaced later.
Go to the glorious African American History Museum when it opens. Revel in the fact your democratically elected President shares your heritage. Read up on folks worth looking up to for inspiration. Forget these little people who aren't calling you. |
Seriously? Not on the original topic of course, but not everyone has a car, not all parents have a car, and 911 can provide wheels in an emergency. Isn't this part of the greening of America? Rely less on vehicles and more on public transportation? |
