Getting a flu shot or Tdap, in every office I know of, does not require a visit with a PCP, these are 5 minute nurse visits. Add to that the flu clinics that are held in most offices and minute clinics available at every walgreens/target and your nanny has absolutely no excuse for delaying this matter.
She's not planning on getting the vaccination (and December is too late as well), yes you are right to be alarmed, OP. |
where are you from? |
The level of ignorance on this forum is just ridiculous. Due to you eavesdropping on a conversation of hispanic nannies (please learn that not all hispanics are latinas) you assume that all of them lie about getting a flu shot. Blatant stupidity if you ask me. OP, if she agreed to get the flu shot then I suggest you press the matter as that was part of the contractual agreement when she agreed to take the position. However, keep in mind that she may want to be reimbursed (if you do not pay for health insurance) and need a few hours off to do so. I do not see nothing wrong with her wanting to go to her primary care provider for the vaccine especially if that is what she is comfortable with. |
When you state an "american" nanny, do you mean white? Because there are so many nannies that are hispanic but are also american. You sound extremely ignorant by the way. |

I'll be the naysayer , and say let her see her regular doctor and ask for proof.
I prefer to see my doc for all vaccines , because I have a particular health issue that can complicate things. My employer knows this and I happily provide proof of vaccines as needed. Don't treat her like a liar without reason it sets a bad tone for the relationship. |
Yes December is late. It's fine if she prefers her doctor but I'm very surprised they can't get her in earlier. Normally it's not hard to get a quick appt for a flu shot. I don't think you are overreacting. I would tell her she needs the shot by X date, she can get it wherever she wants, you will of course pay for it and you need to see the receipt. If you agreed to this as a condition of employment then that's very reasonable. |
| I don't blame her for wanting to go to her own doctor, but that must be difficult if she works for you during the day. Shots are usually something you can just walk in for and have a nurse handle. Maybe she scheduled an annual exam, too, and was going to double up? I'd clarify with her and make sure she knows that you'll arrange for the time off, are willing to pay for the shot, etc. |
