MB here: Our nanny is off on Friday, it's not your fault that Independence day is on a Saturday. It would be within reason to discuss this with your employer. |
Our nanny is off Friday, but not Monday, which DH gets off as well. |
Then he can spend the day doing things without the kids if he wants--lucky man! |
Nothing here, everyone is working. |
Our contract states that nanny gets paid holiday if holiday falls on scheduled work day. Same as my contract used to say when I was a nurse. |
Both parents are off and just asked me to work tomorrow. Annoying. |
I'm working and MB/DB havent said anything anout holiday pay, even though it states in my contract this is a holiday. They don't pay me, the accountant does, so when I send in my house for this week in going to let him know I worked on a holiday. He'll know what to do. Either way, I'm getting holiday pay. |
Problem is, this is ambiguous. Is the holiday the actual 4th? Or, is the holiday the federal holiday? This wording, IMO, needs to be more specific in an actual contract. |
MB here. I give my nanny a list of the dates of her paid holidays at the beginning of every year. If the holiday falls on a Saturday, I give her the previous Friday off. If it falls on a Sunday, I give her Monday off. That way, she gets the same number of days off every year. I don't know if that is standard but it seems fair to me. |
MB here. Any federal holiday that I have off is one my nanny gets as well. So today was a holiday for both of us.
Veteran's day I don't get, but in lieu of that I get the day after Thanksgiving - so she gets the same. I would have loved to have had her here today and had the day to myself, but that certainly doesn't seem fair. The golden rule is always relevant... |
Learn to say, NO. Stop being a doormat. |
Stop being obtuse. Use common sense. 99% of private employers in this area follows the Federal government for holidays that fall on Sat. Or Sun., just as they follow for snow closure. |
And she can always know when it's safe to make plans and not. Kudos, you're a great MB. |
They are in my contract, too, and I list the upcoming holidays on the bottom of her paystub. Also, I make it clear in the contract which days are not included (NYE, MLK Day, President's Day, Columbus Day). She gets some non-holiday days in lieu of some of those. |
