Not OP but I hit the window hard with a box I was carrying that had heavy stuff in it. It jolted the window and dislodged part of the window at the base so that the window didn't go up and down when you hit the button. Freak accident. It also didn't cost $1600 to fix.

Thanks to everyone who posted a reply. i have never posted on this board and loved the feedback - Direct and informative.

For the curious, the teen and nanny were pressing the power window button in opposite directions - one trying to open from the passenger side and one trying to close the same window from the drivers side. Damaged the electrical switch that now prevents the motor from working properly. I think the window still goes up or down but the "one touch" auto up/down didn't work so you'd have to hold the button to go up/down.

I have a car for nanny to use but she prefers to drive her own car so i reimburse her mileage. Teen doesn't drive, single mom works a lot and nanny (or after-school caregiver) drives kid to activities after school.

Your teen probably knew nanny wanted the window up and wasn't following her rules and was fighting with her to put it down. I can see the electrical part costing that much and it may not seem important that the auto up/down doesn't work but it's important to your nanny and the resale value

My mother's helper (who runs errands) would prefer to do this, too, but I don't let her unless I need the other car for some reason. You've just discovered why. I think I would insist on her using the nanny car from now on. You can say that you can't afford to keep a third car (hers) in the condition it should be kept in, and would like to keep all such liability to your own cars.

I've worked for a family where it was 2 girls.. 10 and 14..so it's possible to have a teen just low supervision. Yes, pay all of it.
