You could probably get a trained dog for less.

I disagree in my experience as a white American nanny with a masters degree in early childhood education and 15 years of experience. I have found that most illegal nannies make more then I do. I'm not sure if it's because foreigners are just the industry standard and families want what everyone else has. Maybe they like helping people start a nice life here in the USA. Sometimes I wish I was illegal so I could make more money. American white nannies with college degrees seem to be the bottom of the bareel.

I don't care if you are a mom, a nanny, I'm not going to tell you my charge's name just because you ask. I don't know you.

Not PP but when you are in the park and your charge and another child are playing, if the mother/nanny of the other child asks you your charges name -- you refuse to tell them?!!! That is total nonsense. You are extremely paranoid. [/qu

You can call me paranoid if you want to but unless I'm familiar with you I'm not giving out information like that.

Walking up to someone and demanding to know the name of their child is rude.
At the very least you introduce yourself.

You should be earning double what illegals get. Keep looking.

Try a different area or marketing yourself differently.
I know plenty of American and educated nannies with your experience that are paid accordingly. You need to know where to look.

I prefer to work in McLean and falls church. I know the area and gaffe worked there for the last 12 years

I have your same qualifications but not direct nanny experience (I was a preschool teacher prior to becoming a nanny and this is my first nanny job) and I make much more than any undocumented nanny I have ever heard about -- but I am paid legally so my take-home is obviously less than it would be if I were working under the table.

You absolutely should NOT be earning so little. We are at the top of the barrel, so to speak, and you could easily pull in a terrific hourly wage. You need to start looking for a new job, PP.

NP writing and you are truly being ridiculous,PP. Now asking the name of a child your child is playing with is "demanding to know the name of their child"?!! LOL you make it sound like the Gestapo is asking for papers!!! No one is asking the kid's SS number, Crazy Nanny, just a first name!

My cousin and his wife just legally hired a white, American nanny with a college degree (not even in education) in Falls Church for $23 and hour plus benefits. I know of no illegal nanny earning anything close to that even under the table.

I'm not going to argue with you or resort to hyperbole and name calling. 2015 new years resolution . No need for me to carry on with a stranger on an anonymous message board.

I'm sure you care for your charges in the way you see best and I care for mine in the way I see best. Different strokes for different folks and all that. Happy New Year!

That could be the issue needing to expand your horizons.

Or maybe you need to freshen up your resume.

I asked her her charge's name and she answered in Spanish that she didn't speak English (that and "good day"are the only things I understand in Spanish). I completely understand wanting your child to be immersed in a second language but having a nanny who speaks no English seems a bit reckless to me. How would she explain to EMT's what is wrong or happened to the child in a health emergency? How could she even call the police if there was a break-in?

I think it is dangerous to have a child-care provider who cannot speak a work of English.

You are doing something very wrong to be earning so little in Falls Church, PP. Perhaps you accepted a job too quickly before doing proper research and just got stuck with a very low paying job. Not to be cruel, but are you obese or have another physical challenge that would make you less desirable with your credentials? Do you interview badly (by that I mean very shy, standoffish, snobby or on the autistic spectrum)?

Good luck with your new year's resolution, PP, because you are going to need it. You do sound ridiculously paranoid and a bit crazy. I would be uncomfortable employing a nanny with your strange beliefs.
