MB 'shushed' me RSS feed

How totally appalling! You should obviously immediately confront her on her unacceptably rude behavior or find another job immediately and then quit with no notice. How can you possibly be expected to raise her children under these circumstances??

OP here- thanks for the feedback everyone! MB might've been a little rude but I think I overreacted as well. I will try not to take it personal next time. Thanks!

This was my first thought too--I've accidentally done this myself to DH before, LOL. (And yes, it was unintentional. ) OP, I think you're reading too much into this.

It doesn't matter. It was rude and if a nanny had done this, "without th thinking," you'd fire her. I would not let this go and talk with her and let her know it was insulting.

This is very minor. As an employee, you pick your battles.

It's rudebutnothing to get overly upset about. If she is pleasent the rest of the time iwouldlet it go.

If she constantly talks down to you, find a new position,

I don't think you overreacted. I would have been appalled as a nanny. I have never shushed a child and would never think to do that. It is about basic respect, people.

I would have been offended but also understanding. Offended because I am an adults and I don't believe anyone should speak to me like that, a child might get away with it because of lack of maturity. Understanding because she's a mom and her brain was probably not exactly "there" since she was busy looking for something. The thing is, right when she got back "there" she should have realized that the words that just came out of her mouth were kind of rude. She could have easily said "did I just tell you to shush!? I'm sorry, I was totally in another place, silly me!"

+1. No one should ever tell anyone, no matter the age, to shush. It's completely disrespectful. But people do mess up, and she should have apologized.

I disagree. When someone is talking loud enough to disturb those nearby who are trying to listen to someone talk, sing, play music, etc, they should be shushed.

This. I could see myself doing this. Of course I really really I hope that I would realize it right away and apologize.

No there is no reason to shush. It doesn't make anyone feel good. You can just say "Can you please not talk right now?" Not that hard to say.

That is a lot of words to say when just a quick shh will do.

Yes because 7 words is so hard to say. Even a "Hold on a sec" or "Hang on" or "Just a minute" would do. Shh is just rude and immature. Only kids do that.
